Review

.... a promising debut... There were moments in the book that allowed me to lose myself within its pages and this is what first-class fantasy is all about. --www.fantasybookreview.co.uk

An enjoyable first novel - must have been, as I read it in one sitting - with enough grip to keep you turning the page --www.sci-fi-online.com

Product Description

Chosen is a coming of age tale and fantasy story in one (note: that s fantasy with a small f). Magic books, undead vicars, God and fondue forks are brought together in the story of Alex Preston: a grumpy, daydreaming office worker who finds a tunnel in the basement at work. It leads to a land full of magic and fantasy. Armed with a sleeping bag and a small torch, Alex leaves his family behind and sets off to explore. It s not long before his adventure begins to unravel rather alarmingly and the story builds to an explosive climax. Alex finally discovers the meaning of real magic and learns that when love is stronger than fear, marvellous things can happen.

This is the first time I have read a fantasy book and so was surprised at how gripping a read Chosen is. It combines ordinary life with fantasy and draws the reader in from the first page. The plot is inventive and original, culminating in an extraordinary climax, and concluding in an unexpected twist.
I would thoroughly recommend this book for lovers of all genres.

A stunner 11 Dec 2008

Like Stephen Donaldson? Buy this. A tale of two lands linked by doorways, but don't expect Narnia!
Beautifully drawn characters, good plot, dramatic and moving.
This would make a superb film, but in the meantime, turn the lights down low, curl up in an armchair and prepare yourself for a whole new world.

I loved this book. It's written in a flowing style that allows the story to unfold and build up to it's dramatic climax. You get to really know the various characters and form a bond with them, allowing you to care for what happens to them. As the story unfolds you become more and more aware of the scale of this story - this is not just about a man going on an incredible journey, but about morality, love, beliefs and power.
The writing is witty and insightful with clever touches of the everyday.
I would recommend to all, not just those looking for a fantasy read.
