Chosen is a fantasy adventure - location; Hell, Purgatory, the Demon's Lair, and Hell is everything it's cracked up to be when you're sixteen and running for your soul.

Dynan Telaerin finds himself on a corpse-strewn hillside, uncertain if he's dead or alive, charged with saving his ancestor, the most powerful telepath to ever exist. Dynan has telepathic powers of his own, only he doesn't know how to use them. With monsters and minions hunting him down, the demon's lair isn't the place to learn anything - except how to run and how to hide.

But when they take his brother, Dynan will do anything to get him back.

Will courage alone be enough to face the greatest evil to exist? Will he lose his soul to save everyone else?

The running starts, and doesn't stop to the end of this action packed adventure of a young man coming to terms with his life while he's barely a spirit, through horrors he thought existed only in dreams.

    About the Author

Author Jolea M. Harrison has been writing for as long as she can remember, including a 3 x 5 card epic tale of a young princess in search of the King’s approval, who went out and killed the evil monster none of the knights could slay! This short story was even illustrated! After reading The Lord of the Rings, the fantasy bug left a permanent mark, which was then complicated by her immediate love of Star Wars and other works of science fiction. Not paying attention to genre barriers, Ms. Harrison set out to write the story she wanted to, combining these two genres in an enticing and unique way, producing eight novels in the Guardians of the Word series. Her other interests are gardening and maintaining her Civil War era home. On a recent fact finding mission about the house, she discovered the name of a young soldier who died there while being cared for by the doctor who owned the house at the time. She has two children who firmly believe in ghosts. For more information about the author, go to

    More About the Author

I was never considered a rebellious kid. The last of a line of 4 children of Doug and Fran Minnick, I was able to get away with all the usual 'baby of the family' trickery, aka Everything. Really, I got away with it all because I was more observant than my brother and sisters, and learned faster than they did what drove Mom and Dad to distraction. I either didn't do those things, or I did them in such a way as the older sibs got the blame or the parents just didn't find out about it. I snuck out of the house with my older brother and climbed trees down by the run in the middle of the night with a bottle of Jim Beam to go around at the age of not saying. We ran around the neighbor's front field shooting bottle rockets at each other in a mock battle of epic proportions. On THAT one, we got caught. The bottle rockets made too much noise. There was some serious yelling over it, but not for me. I just got sent to bed.

I tried all the usual antics to publish my series about teenage boys who have some similarities to my brother and his friends and got all the usual rejections. I set out as an Indie last June, 2011, and hit the publish button on Chosen, the first of the Guardians of the Word epic fantasy series. So far, it's been a decision I'd make over and over again, just like I'd crawl out my window overlooking the back porch, shimmy down the drain pipe and take off into the night...oh wait, now I can take the stairs.

I'm a writer, a mother and manager of chaos. I try to do too many things at once, like so many of us, but it all usually works out. I love writing. It's what I'm passionate about and what I want to do above all other things.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Chosen 8 Sept. 2012

A dark science fantasy in a gothic setting, this is a well written and gripping story with an intriguing and complex cast of characters. There are some very graphic, and genuinely scary, depictions of the netherworld but also some very moving episodes. Compulsive reading, and I will definitely be buying the sequels. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting concepts, strong world building 21 Jan. 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story deals with various sets of telepathic twins Dynan and Dain are princes in a world that has been broken and set in a repeating circle for 1000s of years. Dynan is the main protagonist and this book is his story set between the world they live on and also a version of limbo. There are two other sets of telepaths that matter in this story. Alurn is currently a ghost but was once half of a set of twins who intended to break the cycle but instead were broken, in particular Adiem (Alurn's twin) was broken into 6 parts and is the main villain in the book.

Then there are a brother and sister Maralt and Carryn. Carryn gets visions of the future, Maralt has all sorts of powers including the ability to remove memories.

The story is all about how they try to defeat Adiem and as such is a reasonable story. There are however some things that make it hard to give the book five stars. One of these is Maralt who is just too powerful, another is the weakness of Dain. Also it isn't as gripping as it could be and the suspension of disbelief becomes difficult at times.

I can see this book getting everything from 1 to 5 stars, I would have given it 3.5 but rounded up.

    4.0 out of 5 stars Chosen 30 May 2015
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is a blend of science fiction and fantasy which works incredibly well. You also have soul spirits, demons, wraiths as well as the monks and Guardians of the Word. The story is rich and in-depth and will leave you wanting more.

The world is well thought out and the characters all play their parts incredibly well. I don't think there is a single character that I thought could have had more development. Saying that, this is solely for this book because I can see that the story and characters both will continue to grow and advance as the series moves on.

It is hard to say anything more without giving away any spoilers so I will leave it there. What I can and will say is that I can definitely recommend this to all fans of both Science Fiction and Fantasy. Whilst it is free, what you got to lose?

I saw this book and because it was free I decided to give it a go. I'm a fantasy and sci-fi genre fan and I was looking for something new to read. I was hooked straight away and couldn't put it down, I've already downloaded the others books and don't intend to have a life until I finish them lol

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic! 30 Oct. 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved this story from beginning to end! The start of a series concerning twins Dynan and Dain, this tale delves into the mysterious and amazing world that is filled with both magic and technology, mystery and suspense, good versus evil.

It's very well written, and crammed with detailed and realistic characters - some good, some bad - with an immense back story of mythical proportions.

What can I say about the story without giving spoilers? Nothing, but I will say that this book is highly recommended, and for those who love fantasy will adore it.

I am reading book #2, Myth and you will be as hooked as me to see what happens amongst the creativity and limitless imagination of this author.

As they say, a must read!

This book was quite interesting although a little slow to get going. It was a little off track for a while, but as it is part of a series i am hoping it will come together later.
