The first time I saw the film I thought it was awful. The second time, I thought it was pretty awful. But I kept seeing it every time it was shown on television because it had a kind of compulsive, kitsch awfulness. But that's gone for me, now. I no longer see it as 80s kitsch, but as a real classic. The soundtrack takes everything that's good about the film and removes all the still faintly embarrassing bits - the 80s costumes, the not desperately attractive actors, the not desperately great acting. The songs are terrific, the vocal performances are lovely, it's a really great, fun album.
