We normally get our suet fat balls from the RSPB. Slightly more expensive I know but it terms of overall diameter they are certainly bigger and heavier. I reckon that from them each ball weighs in at approx 90-95g's. These fat balls are very small. I would guess, and it is a guess, that these fat balls weigh about 75-80g's per ball. Take that together with the wastage factor, that is to say the number of crushed suet balls at the base of the very primitive cardboard delivery box that they are packaged in, and it works out certainly more expensive that perhaps another brand sold here on Amazon, or indeed from the RSPB, at around 17p per ball. For the price we paid it does not take a genius to work out that these smaller fat balls work out at exactly 16p per fat ball, incl p+p, and assuming that there are indeed 150 fat balls in the box, given that they all appear to be all thrown in there with a rather excessive amount of fat ball crumbs together with crushed balls in the bottom of the box .... which I assume is from initial packaging and then from the parcel postage factor. The consistancy of these fat balls appears stale. Just like stale dry cake which crumbles to the touch. Not that impressed but they are getting eaten .... but rather to quickly as they are very dry for 'fat' suet balls. Anyway cheap and cheerful springs to mind as it does not take much effort for the birds to split these fat balls with the excess falling to the ground from our hanging feeders rather to freely. I suspect that these fat balls will need replacing very quickly. We shall stick with the heavier and more 'solid fat balls' in future for the small amount of additional cost involved. The free 'fat ball feeder' is a gimmick and as such is rubbish. IMHO of coarse.

UPDATE.

These were quite soft and crumbled . So a large quantity were just mush in the bottom of the box. Would not recommend them

5.0 out of 5 stars Bird Feast 28 July 2012
Verified Purchase
These are cheaper than fat balls bought locally from garden centres or pet shops and the birds certainly love them. They encourage into the garden every type of tit, reed buntings, greater spotted woodpecker, etc. Blackbirds have mastered the art of clinging on to the feeders and we even get a jay visiting us regularly to feed on the balls. Yes - some are messy eaters but what they drop is eaten by ground feeding birds.
Excellent service from 'twootz' too. We received our order a mere 27 hours of placing theorder via amazon.co.uk

4.0 out of 5 stars Birds love them 10 Mar 2013

They were a very good price and delivered directly to my front door. I prefer these at balls fas they do not have the green plastic netting on them which i always have to take off. They are of a reasonable quality (as good as most others i have tried) and the birds devour them in record time.

5.0 out of 5 stars come dine with me !! 5 Jan 2013

Excellent value and my birds just love them. the good thing about these fat balls is that they have no rubbish seed in them so the whole ball gets eaten. We have Woodpeckers feeding on the cages, goldfinches, all the tit family and tree rats (I say tree rats because they are not our native squirrels ) So A really good buy in my opinion.

These are great value for money and as they are not wrapped in nylon net are very convenient to use. The birds love them and so do I (to use not to eat).

5.0 out of 5 stars Birds Like These Ones 13 Jun 2012
Verified Purchase
After various birds turning up their 'beaks' at fat balls and then having to dump them in the end, I have brought these balls and they seem to love them. Whether it is that they are acting like small children with their likes and dislikes initially, or whether it is the time of year to feed the fledglings, whatever it is they seem to have taken to my new bulk buy from Twoots and getting through them with gusto. I now need to buy another 50 balls!

Great value for mioney. Prompt delivery. Birds on the other hand do not seem to like these as much as others but not much snow so they may just be picky this year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good value & lack of net safer for birds
Perfectly good fat balls; unlike another reviewer, mine all arrived intact and the birds loved them. I'm glad they came without nets as birds can get their legs tangled in them.

Disintegrate pretty quickly and get mushed but the birds still like them. Probably will get the better quality ones next time though

Tasty. The kids loved them! Only joking......

They were fine. As described. Birds seem to love them. Much safer in a wire feeder than with a net.
