Herbert Howells may not be everyone's cup of tea but this recording, from its clarity of singing to the excellence of production, is a real collector's piece, including many pieces that are rarely if ever recorded.
The beautifully evocative 'Here is the Little Door' and 'God be in my head' to the expansive 'Coll Reg Te Deum' are a testament to some of the finest young singers in the country and to Ralph Allwood's skill in interpretation and direction.
I am not aware of a CD produced by Adrian Peacock that falls short of excellence. Here he ensures a blend that at many times sounds so together as an ensemble that it is hard to believe there were so many separate voices.
A CD not to be missed!
