Review

"Choosing Cesarean is a thoroughly readable book, beautifully written and well researched. The authors offer a supportive approach, with informed decision making. Their argument is cogent, and clearly reasoned in favor of women's choice, including the right to elective cesarean section. This book opens the subject to a healthy debate. A compelling book I can thoroughly recommend." --Dr. Peter De Jong, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist, University of Cape Town

"At last a sensible and 'easy-to-read' book about the pros and cons of cesarean at the mother's request. It reviews the scientific evidence thoroughly enough to satisfy professionals but also explains it in straightforward language for the nonmedical reader." --Phil Steer, emeritus professor, Imperial College London; editor in chief, BJOG, An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology

"A woman's right to choose how she will deliver her baby is the last bastion to overcome in women's long struggle to control their reproduction and sexuality--indeed, to control their lives. Choosing Cesarean is a powerful weapon to help women to finally win this battle." --W Benson Harer, Jr, MD, retired obstetrician and a former president of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists

"As a global maternal health advocate, I hope that all women will some day have more birth options to choose from--and that once a woman has had access to information about her options and makes an informed decision about her birth, that the rest of us will stand behind her to support that choice." --Christy Turlington Burns, director/producer "No Woman, No Cry," founder, Every Mother Counts

"This book provides an outstanding summary of the potential for negative effects of childbirth on a woman's sexual anatomy. The anatomical details are clear and easy to understand and it is a must read for all women. Women need to be informed with all information related to elective c-section versus vaginal birth. This book arms women with the information needed to make the choice that suits them best." --Dr. Jennifer R. Berman, Urologist and Sexual Health Expert, The Berman Women's Wellness Center

Product Description

This title offers an accessible, informative, and thoroughly researched guide for women considering caesarean delivery. Caesarean delivery is often portrayed as an emergency procedure, which a woman must only resort to if she cannot deliver naturally. 'Choosing Cesarean' argues that this attitude is misguided. While not promoting Caesarean delivery as the best or safest option for all women, it makes a convincing case that surgery is a legitimate decision for informed woman to make. By offering a wealth of medical evidence from around the world, it demonstrates that a Caesarean delivery, although the individual risks are different in each case, is no less safe than a natural birth. Written in accessible, jargon-free language, and including expert advice for preparation and recovery, a helpful glossary of medical terms, and an intensively researched reference section, 'Choosing Cesarean' is a superb resource for all expectant women and their families.

Finally and at long last - the truth about planned cesareans 24 Feb 2012
By Birth Trauma Canada - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Dr. Murphy and Pauline McDonagh Hull have done a great service to women in writing this frank, well -referenced book. Dr. Jennifer R. Berman calls it "A Must Read for all Women". I couldn't agree more. It is the first childbirth book that takes the obfuscation and out right lies about planned cesarean birth and replaces them with logic and reason.

Format:Paperback
This book would have a spot on the shelf right next to "Xanax a natural guide to stress relief" and "Bariatric surgery for when dieting seems to tough". While I have no problem with either of the two previous things if they are used when they are needed they should never be a first choice. They are there to be used ONLY WHEN NECESSARY. The same is true of cesarean, it is a medical procedure that can save lives, but it should never be a first choice. The body was designed to give birth naturally not through the lower abdomen. The recovery time is greater and the risks higher if used in a normal uncomplicated pregnancy. The information that book has about planned cesarean at 39 weeks being safer than natural birth is misleading at best. The facts and stats are taken out of context. Anyone reading this book so do some serious reading of medical journals and get complete facts.
