About the Author
Christa Faust is a successful horror and crime writer. Her most recent novel Money Shot for Hard Case Crime won the Crimespree Award and was nominated for several others a sequel is forthcoming. She has written tie-ins to Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street and the Twilight Zone amongst others. She lives in Los Angeles, California, and loves vintage shoes and noir cinema.

Hard Case crime gives hard boiled fiction an new home with the release of both new and classic novels. the cover art is absolutely amazing. Choke Hold is Christa faust's second novel hard Case published, after the much acclaimed Money Shot. Again we meet Angel Dare, the ass kicking ex-porn actress who is a real postmodern sex worker who does not allow her self to be the victim. Her aggressive sexuality is counterbalanced by her basic human decency which we already saw in Money Shot. So we have a very interesting and unusual heroine here. The plot is full of fascinating characters. Faust tells an action packed story full of twists and turns that are pretty much character driven. So apart from being a hard boiled and pretty sexy novel Choke Hold is also very intelligently written. Another Faustian masterpiece!

I first heard about this book when I attended CrimeFest 2012, but only got round to buying this book last week, and once I started reading on the weekend, I couldn't put it down. I know you read that a lot in reviews, but I've also been reading books from Stephen Leather, Simon Kernick and others which I haven't been able to connect with.
"Choke Hold", however, caught me on the first scene. This book is fast paced and populated with colourful characters could hold of my attention immediate and kept it. There are twists and turns that keep the characters on their toes and the reader turning pages.
Very evocative prose, good dialogue and clear characterisation of some twisted individuals who still remain believable, characters not caricatures.
I enjoyed that these people were flaws, and ex-porn star, a wanna be cage fighter and a punch drunk, brain damaged ex-fighter. The fact that they are running from crooks who want to kill them and not always for the reason you think, makes for some interesting twist and turns. The end came a bit quickly and thankfully wasn't one of those annoying `happy ever afters' that often feel contrived, yet there remained something a little unsatisfying about the end all the same.
