X-Press 2 (Diesel, Rocky and Ashley Beedle) are younger than the aforementioned DJs and this is reflected in their "choice" of classics, which come from the 80s and 90s. First disc starts with the pumping "Calypso Of House" and it contains a few very famous tracks such as the tribal "Voices", the jazzy "Jacobs Ladder", the funky "There Was A Time", which also appears in the mesmerising "Essential Mix" by Francois K, and the deep "At Les". Other tracks worth mentioning are "Bush Beat" and "Beyond The Clouds". 3.5 stars
The second disc contains excellent tracks and some true house gems! "Don't Leave Me" and "Life's Just A Ballgame" are great vocal tracks. Although a long track, "Beatbox" has very memorable moments with a fantastic finale. Other classics in here that most people will recognise are "La Habanera" and Frankie Knackles' fantastic remix of "Ain't Nobody", a track that is definitely one of my favourites in this mix. Special mention should also go to the jazzy "Dancing Digits". If, however, I had to pick one track that would probably be the impeccable "Jibaro". A very engaging dance track. A weak moment in this disc is Cure's "Pictures Of You", which is a decent track, but too melancholic and in my opinion misplaced in this mix! 4.5 stars
Overall this mix is an outstanding effort by X-Press 2, still it is not of the calibre of Tenaglia's or Frankie Knuckles' "Choice", but is very close. So expect quality throughout. If you are a house or disco junkie, you should have this in your collection along with the rest of the "Choice" series!
