I had really high (possibly unrealistic) expectations of this album. The albums that this ladies voice graces are exceptional, as indeed are her aptly described 'chocolate and chilli' tones. Bahama Soul Club especially, but also Club Des Belugas have records that are uplifted by Brenda Boykin's rich soul-jazz voice. I therefore came to this hoping and expecting the same high standards. Under other circumstances I would perhaps say this was better, but given the incredibly high quality of those records, this somehow falls a little flat. The one stand out is Hard Swing Travelling Man which is brilliant and arguably worth the price of admission alone, but the rest was, to be blunt, slightly forgettable. Good, but given the choices, slightly disappointing.
