What's so special about chocolate? It's just a tasty treat - isn't it? As a matter of fact there's far more to the humble chocolate bar, as this extraordinary book demonstrates. Describing the historical progress of the miraculous bean - from the Aztecs to Nestle - with a mixture of facts, speculation, personal recollections and recipes, Vivian French and illustrator Paul Howard take us on a wide-randing journey that gives us chocolate in all its glory.

Vivian French has created a fantastic, informative and entertaining book about chocolate, its history, origins and developments: it is superbly researched and written in a style which is interesting for adults and older children - the illustrations and layout only go to help this book be even better. Highly recommended for all children, adults and schools

5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy book, 21 April 2011
This review is from: Chocolate: The Bean that Conquered the World (Hardcover)
Very yummy book. I must always have some chocolate after, in between and maybe before reading this book. This is a very good book for children. Very clearly and informatively written about chocolate through time lines. From the Ptolemic era to the present day. It has very good contents with good drawings. I learnt a lot about chocolates from this book. At the moment I have even seen a real chocolate tree in Kew Gardens. For all the chocolate crazed people "chocolate is a fruit seed" what could be more healthy!!!

My young daughter was delighted with this book. She has enjoyed reading the stories and learning about the history of chocolate. We now want to try out the recipe...
