Great wonderful music - you don't need me to tell you that. The excellent score from a much loved film, this contains some timeless moments. And given that a lot of money has clearly been spent updating the packaging and background detail, you'd be forgiven for thinking the producers would have taken the trouble to remaster the music. Not so. It is probably the worst recording I have ever paid money for - echoey, compressed and with very little bass. If you can imagine dangling a small television over one end of your bath while using an ear trumpet at the other end to record the sound onto an old computer cassette recorder, you get some idea of how bad this sounds. A travesty, which sounds FAR worse than the DVD played through my ordinary television. What a shame! Particularly as having seen this was coming out, I waited months instead of getting the much cheaper, presumably identical old version.

Original Is Best 11 April 2003

While not decrying the stage revival, this is the essential album as it is the soundtrack to the much loved 1968 family film.
A long time coming to CD but worth the wait. All the film songs are on here with highlights including "Me Ol Bamboo" "Truly Scrumptious" "Toot Sweets" and the different versions of the classic title song. This is sung by the original cast Dick Van Dyke, Sally Ann Howes etc and is a great CD for all the family.

One minor gripe - the packaging is very different to the original vinyl LP - photos of characters are missing as are the notes by the great Sherman's. Not even a picture of the memorable Childcatcher, Benny Hill or Granpa. Ah well, never mind!

Good CD , really enjoyable only thing I could personally fault is that the music from the scene of the 'music box' does not have full music like the film...so perhaps for ones purchasing this out there who maybe like us want to perform the duo between truly and Mr Potts ..Mr Potts entrance music from the box is absent...it contains just the second part of them both singing.I know this will not apply to the majority but it may be useful info to some, like it would have been to us before purchasing.I do not regret however purchasing it because since our party the children are 'chitty mad' and it is in constant use!
