This is a good little book which covers the history of chinese settlement in the Liverpool, the oldest chinese community in europe. The books begins with chinese seafarers employed by the Blue Funnel line steamship company and covers reactions to the chinese and the lives of early chinese liverpudlians and the population fluctuations between 1900-50 and the reasons behind this. The book includes many photographs of the old china town, people and features recounted personal histories. I found it a useful for putting the subject in context -i have a chinese grandfather about whom the family knows very little. Fascinating history when put together with Blue funnel and Opium wars instigated by Britain to open china to foreign trade.

This book delves into the histiry of the relativley small group of Chinese in Liverpool. It gives a good insight into this communities origins and how they have become embedded in the Liverpool culture.
