Product Description

Product Description

Flavoured Teas - Jasmine Pearl Tea; Jasmine Pearl is a top grade Chinese jasmine tea, hand rolled into pearls from the tender leaves and buds of the tea plants "Fuding Da Bai Cha" or Fuding Da Hao Cha". The tea making process also involves scenting the tea with fresh jasmine flowers. The gentle production process includes steps of fixation, rolling and drying, and many of the natural health substances remain in the tea after processing. Jasmine flowers are used to make tea, often when mixed with green tea. The flowers are picked, stored and used when the petals have opened. Teas and flowers are mixed and the green tea is allowed to take up moisture from the flowers allowing the scent to migrate across to the tea to give the typical flavour and aroma of Jasmine. The characteristics of the Jasmine Green tea vary with the region, the weather, the time of year of harvesting and type of processing. The history of the Green tea goes back 3000 years in China and the products has been considered through the years as being of great medicinal benefit. A wide range of western studies have been performed to support this and it has been reported that they have validated many of these claims. The health benefit claims are based in part on the tannins found in the leaves, which have naturally occurring strong antioxidant properties. Drinking green tea is is therefore one way of increasing the daily intake of antioxidants, which could have a beneficial effect on health and the aging process. 3.0 out of 5 stars Taste suggests old stock, but still reasonable value, 22 Oct 2008
My local tea shop stopped selling Jasmine Pearl so I tried this as an alternate. The tea was supplied in a clear plastic bag with the top folded down and sealed with an inch of tape - the bag was not airtight. There was a hand written label but no date.
All tea should ideally be well sealed for freshness and drunk within 6 months or less. Jasmine Pearl is a premium tea, but offers good value as you can usually make up to six cups with the same 5 pearls (first cup at below boiling). The tea supplied here lacked the jasmine aroma, suggesting it was older than it should be (or badly stored) and had more stalk than the other brand - stalk increases bitterness. This tea was not sweet or aromatic enough to make 6 cups- the third cup was struggling for flavour.
Half the price of my previous tea, so still reasonable value, but I did miss the jasmine aroma.
