Book Description

31 Aug 2002 Pet Love
Distinctive for its hairlessness, the Chinese Crested is the world's most popular breed of hairless dog - a curious distinction, for certain. Beneath its purple or pink (any colour!) skin is a rare and delightful canine. Sometimes compared to a graceful, prancing pony in miniature, the Chinese Crested, with its tufted head, feet and tail, makes a feisty, fun-loving pet for those folk clever enough to fall in love with a nearly naked dog. The breed, in actuality, comes in two varieties, with the Powder Puff coated in a soft veil of hair. For the right owners, the Chinese Crested makes a loyal and enthusiastic pet, happily participating in sports and the like. The Chinese Crested requires little in the way of special care, though a properly informed and responsible owner is a requirement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really very informative about every subject! 26 Sep 2005

This Book is just great because it has a lot of good structured information in it about almost every thing. I also like a lot that it has a lot detailed medical info with tips and advise about (even natural) treatments and preventions. I think its oneof the best dog books I ever read without the book being too huge/redundant.

I am going to be owning one of these dogs very soon and I wanted to have as much information about them as possible. This book provided history (such as all American line Chinese Crested can be traced to Gypsy Rose Lee!) as well as health, grooming and training information. I would recommend this book to anyone who wanted to learn more about this wonderful breed.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent information 27 May 2008

Having a 5 month old Crested puppy, I purchased this book to find out more about the breed, and I did. Yes, you can surf the web and get info, but in this book, the information is all together in one spot. The book is well organized and gives general information on almost every topic. What I liked about this book over other books is the fact that the book gives the differences between the hairless and the powderpuff, which is what my puppy is. For every new Crested owner, this is a great reference book.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS THE BOOK ON CHINESE CRESTEDS!!! 12 Mar 2010

An excellent book, very informative, full of pictures, and a complete guide to owning and caring for a Chinese Crested. This books goes into detail on the special needs of the hairless and pom-pom varitees and I was very pleased with the book. This author discusses the training methods that work well with the Cresteds. There are special section on housetraining; the need to socialize a puppy or adult dog well. There is a great deal of information on the Chinese Crested medical needs, and even a section on elder care. Unlike so many books that claim to be 'comprehensive,' this wonderful book truly is. I adopted a special needs, hairless Chinese Crested, from the Humane Society of Missouri when he was 9 months old. He was a puppy mill rescue. This great book has been my guide for my new best friend, Chester! Be sure to adopt your new best friend from a shelter, or rescue organization.
