"Somebody say go" the opening line of this live rock n roll spectacular, followed by a furious version of Raceway from the classic Kings of Oblivion LP and it just doesnt stop coming after that. This year I got back into the music of my youth, big time, powered by the amazing Naim Amplifiers I finally bought this spring, whose pace, rhythm and timing make music in the home very real indeed. 1975's Live at Roundhouse has always slightly disappointed me, in spite of both Paul Rudolph and Larry Wallis being on stage together, for my money someone forgot to plug the guitars into the mixing desk on that one. No such mistake here, even Sandy's bass comes through loud and clear here. The sheer energy on show here would disgrace most punk bands, yet alone metal outfits. The twin guitars of Larry 'Lazza' Wallis and Andy Colquhoun lead the assault, with songs from all four of the Fairies seminal studio albums. Most are given the second era PFs short and sweet musical blasts with Lazza's Police Car and the twin drummers Walk Dont Run being 10 minute or so epics. Sound quality initially strikes you as being a bit thin but a good hifi system will make this set burn as it should. Live really was live with PFs so you get feedback and an appeal for 'Barry to get rid of that hum' at one point. One of many great things about this band is there were two main eras, so you get two fantastic bands in one. Larry Wallis fronted this second era, I ve given up deciding which one I love the most, the Paul Rudolph first era, cosmic boogie is also preserved on plastic forever too with the equally spectacular live 'Finland Freakout' CD. Up the Pinks!
