The Eastern Cape in South Africa is a special place. Beautiful beaches, spectacular wild life and a temperate climate which is great all year round. What many people don't know is that there has been a thriving chinese community there since the early 1900's. Chinese food is very popular with the locals and a chinese takeaway is never far away. The menu is based on cantonese style cooking combined with local ingredients and flavours. A few particular favourites are completely unique and not done the same way anywhere else. This book brings together all these gems. Dishes like hong kong chicken, shanghai steak and egg fu yung. I have been searching for a recipe book like this for years and am delighted to have found one. Besides the wonderfully simple recipes, the book also stands as a testament to the life of Peter Lee Ching who continued to work as a chef despite being blind. 5/5 stars for the uniqueness of the book and the recipes!
