Like all of Regina Krahl's books, the standard of scholarship is high and one can only marvel at the author's apparently enormous capacity for work and research. When one adds to this the fact that the book is a thing of beauty in itself one has, in short, a very desirable publication.

This astonishing private collection has virtually doubled in size since Regina Krahl's catalogue was first published in 1994. Therefore, a third volume has been produced. This is in two parts (in slip case) and corresponds approximately to the period covered by Volume I in the original publication, namely Neolithic through to the end of the stoneware tradition after the Song dynasty. A fourth volume is in preparation, which will include ceramics from the fourteenth to the nineteenth centuries AD and thus compliment Volume II. Whether Volume IV will also comprise two parts is not known but one can only hope so. The binding and style of Volume III matches that of the original publication, save that the covers are a slightly darker colour. There are 614 pages and some 600 pieces selected. Many of the pieces are well known but they all receive scholarly attention from the author. It seems highly like that this sumptuous book will, like its predecessor, quickly become a collector's item, and justifiably so.
