Chinese brush painting uses a minimum of strokes to describe the essence of a subject and capture its rhythm and beauty. This book contains more than 200 exquisite motifs to recreate, from pretty flowers and butterflies to wildlife and scenery. Each motif includes an explanation of its symbolic meaning, a palette of colours, and step-by-step instructions in the order, direction, and type of brushstrokes. An introductory section explains all tools, techniques and materials, from choosing ink and paper to achieving the perfect colour and consistency of paint. The book is also packed with advice on composing and combining images to create perfectly balanced, harmonious paintings, and ideas for using and displaying your finished art.
About the Author
Jane Dwight learned the art of traditional Chinese brush painting in Manila in the Philippines. Her teacher was the renowned expert, Professor Chen Bin Sun. She has also studied with the fabled Qu Lei Lei and Cai Xiaoli. Her beautiful paintings have appeared in many articles and books.

Format:Spiral-bound
I'd had a couple of attempts at this after reading an article about Chinese brush art in the SAA newsletter "Paint" so I thought I'd treat myself to a book about it. well like with most Art there were loads of books making it difficult to know which one to chose, the only proviso i had was that i didn't want to spend too much.
well this little book (20.5 x 16cm) was all i wanted as it explains all you need to know. the 200 motifs include flowers, fruit & vegetables, insects, animals, Chinese zodiac, birds, fish, landscape elements and compositions. This is more than enough to keep me amused for quite awhile and the images are really lovely.
Another point is that the book is sort of spiral bound i think you call it, anyway it means it opens flat which i think is a plus for a book you are trying to work from.
At the price it is really good value for money and as a beginner just what i wanted.

I received this for Christmas 2 hours ago and haven't put it down since! Even if you never put brush to paper to try to emulate these beautiful pictures you will have enormous pleasure from just reading it. But, I'll bet you won't be able to resist .....

Oh WOW!!!! This book is fantastic!! i strongly recommend you read the tecniques first if your new to this art. i am and i'm totally hooked. its straight forward, dosnt waffle and gets you itching to get on and paint. it shows you exactly how to start and then has loads of super pictures to copy. highly recommended!! its a must have! buy it!!
