Jazz vocalist Andy Bey has made a name for himself as a unique song interpreter as well as a skilled pianist. His deep, resonant voice was a memorable feature of seventies recordings by Gary Bartz and Horace Silver, and also the acclaimed "Tuesdays In Chinatown" and "American Song".
"Chillin'" finds Bey in an unusual setting - with his mellow voice accompanied by just himself on piano. Like "American Song" the repertoire is taken from the Great American Songbook. And, again, Andy Bey is very much his own man, constantly in the process of creating his own unique paradigm amid the highly flexible borders and boundaries of modern jazz.
Personnel: Andy Bey - vocals, piano
(4 1/2 stars) Bey has developed a voice of such astonishingly honeyed depth and sensitivity that it rivals any instrument. -- The Independent On Sunday, (Phil Johnson),September 27, 2006
