Waterproof MP3 players are a minefield, so here's your navigation map :) Let's be clear, there is no such thing as a waterproof MP3 player! I know this, because this is the fourth one I've tried. By 'waterproof' the manufacturers mean that water will not get into the mechanism. 1) Of the four I've tried, water DID get into two of them, resulting in breakdown after about a month. 2) At some point, water WILL get into your ears regardless of which earplug extension they give you. Trust me, it just does - and it makes little difference if you put them on before you begin, or during your swim. This then prevents you from hearing the music - so by a wider definition, it is clearly not 'waterproof'. That includes this model, which I have to take off every twenty minutes or so, to get water out of my ears. So why have I given it three stars? For the following reasons. 1) It's still working. 2) It stays on most of the time, even without having to be attached to goggles, though this depends on how vigorous your swimming is. 3) As it's still working, I undoubtedly swim longer, because it really is a joy to listen to the music. 4) The sound is less 'tinny' than the other models I've tried. 5) Putting music onto it is very simple - just drag and drop... Oh, and don't be fooled into thinking that a branded name model will be any better than the others - they are all the same when it comes to the above points. At least, that's been my experience. Hope that helps!

The branded named ones are no better than the dodgy fake ones either.

This is generally a good product. The ear phones fit well and keep the water out except during the most vigorous activity, and the sound quality is good. The wrap-around headset functions well and will keep the earphones well seated if you just tuck it under your swimming goggles head strap to keep everything stable.

Where it falls down is the shuffle function. It works fine for the first session, but when you start the player again the next day it will finish the song it is on and go straight back to the beginning of the shuffled list and play all the tracks you heard last time. It seems the only way to stop this is to connect the player to your PC and load or remove a track, at which point the list re-shuffles.

This wouldn't be a problem if I used the player occasionally, but I swim every day and it's frustrating to hear the same 10-15 tracks each time when I have hundreds of songs on the player. Yes you can fast forward, but by the end of the week I was having to fast forward through 40-odd tracks just to find something new. I spoke to Chilli technical support who check to see if they could get a firmware update to fix the problem, but in the end came back and said there wouldn't be one. At that point I returned the player and I'm now looking for one that does have a proper shuffle function.

If you're using this player occasionally, or don't want the shuffle function, it's a great piece of kit. If you swim a lot and want to listen to a good variety of music you may be better off looking elsewhere.

Finally an easy pick up to use player. Mp3 and WMA files no extra software just drag the file onto the player and your off. Main part is that I swim speedily and they stay in my ear, 3 other tried and tested players did not. It also works well as a stand alone player as they supply ear buds for swimming and dry use( easy to interchange the 3 different sizes)

I don't write many reviews but I felt compelled to write one for this product. I swim every day and really enjoy listening to music whilst I do it and I have hunted for a long time for a underwater mp3 that actually works. I used the cheap one which straps to the side of your goggles but it felt uncomfortable and the separate headphones kept coming out of my ears. I also used another one, similar to the Chilli with the player built into the headphones but it kept cutting out. The Chilli player is by far the best one I have used so far.
To be clear - no underwater mp3 works perfectly and water can always get into your ear and the sound will occasionally cut out. You need to create a strong seal which involves finding exactly the right size ear buds (they send 3 sizes) and pushing it quite far down your ear so water won't be able to get in. I also use my goggles to hold it in place, with one strap below the player and the other above on the back of my head.
But saying all that, the Chilli works better than all the other ones I have tried. Even though you do still need to occasionally fiddle with it, once you get it working properly it is an absolute joy to swim with great tunes, I have found myself swimming for much longer now I have it. People do stare at you though and I am often stopped in the pool and asked by someone if that thing actually works and what it's like!
On top of all that, I can highly recommend the Chilli customer service. I had a small issue with mine and I contacted them and they were very nice and sorted out my problem (thanks Matt!)
Highly recommended.
