'Chilled House' is quite an unusual mix to produce, and unlike some other MoS productions, it is unlikely the many people will have a collection quite like this album, and the first volume of Chilled House Session. MoS often produce trance and dance music albums that contain tracks that not only will more people have to begin with, but are also repeated on every album they produce, it seems. This is not the case here, at least not for me, and MoS are targeting a really unusual genre of music, which I think works very well.
The first good thing about CHS2 is that it is about on a par with volume 1. MoS's 'Chilled' collections, for example, were vastly different, in my opinion; volume 1 was good, volume 2 was very poor. No such comparison can be made here.
The songs themselves are pretty upbeat, but without getting too upbeat to party the night away. This is the sort of music that you might hear in a wine bar or something along those lines. It adds a little class to your night out, or in this case, your evening in. On the flip side, it is also not 'chilled' in the conventional sense; each track contains a beat and bassline of some form. Like me, if you can't decide whether you prefer house or chillout, this is a good album to buy.
None of the songs are absolute crackers, but conversley none are terrible. It's better off listened to altogether, rather than picking out individual tracks. That is largely down to the excellent mixing quality of this album - often, compilation albums like this are not of great mixing quality, but this is an exception - plenty of effort has gone into this. According to the album cover, 'Ben Bell at Redlight' mixed and mastered this album - he's done a good job.
I'd recommend this album if you want to fill a gap in your portfolio of electronic-type music; it's something a little bit different.
