Book Description

As a forensic nurse on a search and rescue team, Brynn Nealey braves a dangerous blizzard to find the survivors of a plane crash in the Cascade Mountains. Joining her is Alex Kinton, a former US marshal with self-destructive tendencies. Alex lies his way onto Brynn’s team to find the man who killed his brother—and then administer his own brand of vigilante justice. But once the team members reach the plane’s wreckage, they discover everyone aboard has perished…except for the man Alex is hunting. Alex will do whatever it takes to track his target through the vast, snowy wilderness.

As the temperatures drop, however, so do Alex’s defenses. His contact with the sharp, kindhearted Brynn makes his lust for vengeance difficult to reconcile with his growing feelings for a woman who risks her life to help others. What will happen to Alex’s savage instincts when he finally has the opportunity to confront his brother’s killer?

In Chilled, the next thrilling tale in the Bone Secrets saga, Golden Heart finalist Kendra Elliot weaves an icy tale of cold nights, cold hearts, and cold-blooded killers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Second Novel 13 Aug. 2012
By Wendy Jones TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This is the second novel by Kendra Elliott and I can assure you it is as good as her last one, Hidden. Brynn Nealey is a Search and Rescue Nurse and she is heading out into the snow and wilderness to search for a downed plane. Alex Kinton "A US Marshall" turns up and joins the rescue team, however, he is hiding a secret from his past. What the team doesn't know is that the plane held an extremely disturbed and sadistic serial killer who is somehow linked to Alex. The descriptions in this book are absolutely spot on and transported me to the frozen landscape in which they searched. I could feel myself getting colder by the second. No one is who you expect in this book and there are seemingly bad guys who are good guyy, good guys who are bad guys and bodies enough for the most ardent murder mystery fan. I felt I knew each character intimately including the bad guys, which is not a comfortable place to be. The dram abuilds quickly and is held throughout the book. Some parts may be a little implausible but it's a novel and they certainly add to the tension. Being a romantic suspense Brynn and Alex find themselves increasingly attracted to each other adn their increasing interest in each other runs through the book. However, this is integrated well and enhances rather than detracts from the main storyline which is that of mystery. An excellent book and I shall certainly look out for others by this author.

3.0 out of 5 stars Search And Rescue Meets Romance 14 Oct. 2012
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Chilled is something of a hybrid. On one hand the main plot centres around a search and rescue team who go out into the icy wilds to locate a small aircraft which has gone down with four people on board. These include a homicidal convict who is being transported. The other main aspect is the increasing attraction between two members of the team, Brynn the nurse and Alex, a former US marshall who has wangled his way into the team with a certain amount of misrepresentation.

As far as the thriller aspect of this tale goes, the plot is well thought out by the author and has an interesting twist in that Alex and the killer have a history and there are various flashbacks to their previous dealings with each other. The psychological angles of their relationship are explored in some depth and this is one of the more interesting aspects of this book. The search and rescue does develop at rather a slow pace and after three hundred pages or so, not a whole lot has really happened although I thought that the icy cold setting was very realistically described so that the reader could almost feel they were there. However the story does take off at a frenetic pace from that point.

My personal reading preferences are for good, solid thrillers and I do not choose to read much in the way of romantic fiction. Hence from my viewpoint the blossoming affair between Brynn and Alex was rather a distraction from what I considered the main story. Others may view it as main point of this book depending on their literary tastes. Alex sums it all up at one point when he comments that he has been obsessing over Brynn to such an extent that he has not even thought about the homicidal maniac roaming around outside for hours. Personally I found this a bit unlikely.

    By A. Chell VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?) tacking on an explicit sex scene.

Although this book is marketed as being a romance, I found it to be a taut and well-written thriller, at least for the first two-thirds of the book. The basic premises used in the story have been seen many, many times before - I was reminded of the movie Cliffhanger in places (and Silence of the Lambs) - but the pacing and plotting was enough to keep me turning the pages with ever increasing speed.

Towards the back of the book the romance element becomes more noticeable, but doesn't overwhelm the thrills and action - until THAT sex scene. I'm no prude, though perhaps my perception of what constitutes a 'romantic' novel is old-fashioned, but the tone of the scene and its explicitness jarred with much of the rest of the book in my opinion. It felt almost like the author had received publisher's notes saying 'sex it up a bit' after submitting the first draft.

Up to that point this book was heading for a well-deserved five stars from me, but I've had to knock off half a star (rounded down) because of the knocking off.

2.0 out of 5 stars Definately not for me 12 Oct. 2014
    By Robbie
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Finished reading this book and have to say was pleased when I'd finished it. I personally found it to be long and drawn out and to be honest boring, predictable and stupid, with the ending finishing in an anti-climax. The story only started to get going when it was near to the end and wished I'd never started it. I'm a bit baffled how so many people gave more stars I suggest you read other peoples comments that gave less stars to give you a true overall opinion to save wasting your time and money

3.0 out of 5 stars Rescue and Romance 27 Mar. 2013
    By Tangerine VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Chilled is a good read but far from without fault. Please be aware that this review does contain some spoilers!

A romantic story with thrills and spills along the way is based upon a plane crash which has a rather nasty piece of work on board. Once the plane is down a rescue team is dispatched to recover and help those who may be stranded. A former US Marshal with a personal vendetta to settle presents himself as a bonifide US Marshal and pledges to help the rescue mission but he evidently has other plans. Despite is intentions his lies are believed and he joins the rescue team. During his journey to the crash site he finds love but when they all arrive at the person of interest is not present. This is where the book becomes a little odd. Despite the plane crash the man who all wanted to find seems to have no ill-effect of the recent plane crash and he then watches the rescue team with evil deeds on his mind. This is a book based on deception and is intriguing and I didn't struggle to complete it. It is engaging enough and I'd recommend it if you are looking for a thriller with a romantic story within it.
