Product Description

INSPIRED BY CULT AUTHOR HP LOVECRAFTS SHORT STORY "COOL AIR"

In this classic retro horror thriller, Sam, an aspiring writer, takes a job as a clerk in an L.A. inner city grocery market owned by the sinister Dr. Munoz, a former scientist who claims to have a rare skin condition that forces him to live in sub-freezing temperatures. Meanwhile, Sam befriends an attractive neighbourhood boutique owner Maria and becomes unwittingly entwined in a threatening love triangle when she reveals that ex-boyfriend Detective Defazio, who is investigating the recent disappearance of two local prostitutes, is stalking her. But it's what Sam doesn't know that might prove more fatal. A darker, diabolical secret lurks behind the freezer walls of his newfound employment. Sam is horrified when he discovers that Munoz died some time ago, but has kept himself alive through occult measures and the flesh that he harvests from his kidnapped victims. With Defazio off track in his investigation, Sam becomes captive in this house of horrors.

Time is running out and he must escape to save his own hide - literally. Will he escape before the next fall of Munoz's razor-edged blades?

I approached this film with some optimism, hoping it would be fun and something a little different. How wrong can one person be. The plot of this film is extremely convoluted, and at times I struggled to even understand what some of the characters where even supposed to be doing. The film centres around a struggling writer called Sam, and his quest to constantly wear a beany hat, even though its summer! At the start of the film we see him attempting to secure a job at a slightly down at heel deli, that appears to be run by the rudest woman I have ever seen. The rude woman says she will have to check with the actual owner whether or not Sam has got the job. Little does Sam know, the owner of the deli is in fact a totally insane undead doctor, with a Frankenstien's monster like creation at his command. Oh, and did I forgot to mention that this undead doctor of evil, kidnaps people and then steals patches of there skin to replace his own. Well he does. This may sound like its a; low budget, B-quality, enjoyable trash fest. But its not, it is in fact a zero budget, Z-quality, heap of trash, that nobody in their right mind would enjoy.

Once the film establishes the main plot, (if you can call it a plot) it then sets about trying to rape are brain cells with a bucket full of pointless sub plots, that add about as much to the film, as getting a roll of barbed wire inserted into your anus would add to your ability to sit down. The stupid sub plots include; a detective stalking a woman he had a one night stand with, a pimp looking for a missing prostitute, and a mind numbingly dull romance.

This film won the Worldfest International Festival award for best special make up effects. But this award must have been free with a box of corn flakes, because the effects in this film are dreadful.

Proof that you don't need a huge budget to make a decent film. The acting for the most part, especially from Ashley "hell raiser" Laurence and Shaun Kurtz is very good. The pace may feel a little slow at times but with little money the focus is mainly on building a story. This is more like a piece of 80's film nostalgia and was a film I certainly don't regret buying if not for everyone.

This film is made with a clearly small budget: let's get that out of the way. The CGI effects towards the end don't really convince.
Right, that's the warning done with. It doesn't bother me, but sadly some people need to be regailed with special effects to be impressed.

What we have here is a truly spooky film, loosely based on HP Lovecraft's 'Cold Air'. It's very well acted and in parts, genuinely grisly.
To begin with, various plot threads are presented one after the other, and this serves to intrigue rather than confuse. Everything is explained as the film goes on, and it all makes sense. The main characters are easy to care about, so when unpleasant things begin to happen, you actually care about them - this is something teen slasher films could learn something from!

I also really liked the use of location for this. Everything is set in a typical, slightly down-market shopping centre. During daytime, this is familiar enough, reassuring even. During the night, however, such familiarity is turned on its head, and the surroundings take on a truly claustrophobic, unfriendly atmosphere.

I really enjoyed this and recommend it unreservedly.

I've read H.P.Lovecraft for years, and they are hard to get right for film...and they really need a big budget.....so I think this should never have been attempted...only one Lovecraft film really worked, an 80's film 'From Beyond' and that worked .....but this was terrible, and badly disjointed in the storyline with a very bad lack of support actors...nobody hardly using the store, one uniform cop, a detective who served as a baddy...pimps that merely muddled through to provide a bodycount of sorts...terrible flashback bits of a 'lab' which didn't look like one..and occasional traffic scenes....it could have been so much better in the right hands, but that's why Lovecraft tales should be left for the big companies..this thing would hardly make it to TV as an episode of a loony killer subject...as for special FX....he should have waited until he could afford Greg Cannon, Stan Winston etc,........don't buy this it is utter nonsense....and Mr Lovecraft probably turned in his grave.
