As a Montessori-trained preschool teacher, I was very excited about getting ideas from this book to use at home with my one year old. When it arrived, I was very disappointed in the utter lack of suggestions for children under 2. The great majority of ideas in this book are for older 2 and 3 year olds. What's worse is the handful of ideas for younger babies couldn't be more basic: rolling a ball, playing peekaboo, looking in a mirror, singing "If you're happy and you know it". Now I know encouraging play for young babies should be simple and developmentally appropriate, but come on! I suggestHow To Raise An Amazing Child the Montessori Way for a great, easy to read introduction to Montessori in the home and Games to Play with Toddlers, Revised (Games to Play Series)for much better Montessori-inspired activities for your 12-24 month old. Silberg's book in particular has great ideas for making independent activities for your child out of inexpensive, household materials.
