5.0 out of 5 stars Overcoming shyness 27 Jan 2014
By Grady Harp - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Author Efrat Haddi, with excellent support from illustrator Abira Das, has written another fine little story about the value of learning, and the clever way she tells the story makes it remarkable and memorable for children.

Lily is a little girl who dreams of having a parrot - a bird with whom she can talk and sing and play. Her mother agrees and takes Lily to the pet store where Lily sees all the colorful parrots talking away - except for one little white parrot who wasn't talking at all. Lily's mother explains that the parrot can talk but is simply shy. Lily decides her parrot is indeed shy and can overcome that shyness so she selects the little white parrot and takes him home to love him. She names him Perry the Parrot, and at home she introduces him to all her dolls and shares her won stories of being shy and simply talks to him. In a matter of days, little Perry grew to know the house and the dolls but remained silent. Finally Lily shares her situation at school of fearing to talk when called upon and how she over came that, and with that sharing Perry begins to talk and answers her!

Efrat Haddi obviously understands children (she is a mother of 3!) as well as the techniques of teaching children concepts through stories. This is a very well written and illustrated book that should become a favorite bedtime story - with a lesson. Grady Harp, January 14
