Product Description

Product Description

Children's needs may seem obvious, but their demands change with alarming speed. Children's Spaces helps you to plan all the practical aspects of children's rooms and provides plenty of affordable ideas and inspiration when it comes to their design and decoration. Judith Wilson looks at rooms for children between birth and ten years old, with chapters on babies' rooms, rooms for girls (how to cope with the pink flowery phase), rooms for boys (how to avoid the military look) and shared bedrooms (how to create a room that works for both boys and girls). There are also chapters on sensible storage and areas that children and adults share - bathrooms, play areas, eating areas and outside space. Children's Spaces contains a wealth of inspiration drawn from the homes of real families, with real kids, which amply proves that children and great design can happily co-exist without compromising on style.

This treasure of a book will reassure the design-conscious parent that it is possible to have a stylish home even if you have small children. Honestly! Beautifully photographed - with real-life homes lived in by real-life children and their toys, games, books, computers .... - it offers decorating solutions that will please both children and the most style-conscious adults. The pleasure is that this is not another book instructing you to stencil teddies all over the walls or to rush out and buy the latest cartoon character bedding. No, this is child-friendly style of the coolest kind: relaxed rooms with a minimalist edge. The chapters look at everything from kids bedrooms (nurseries through to teenage dens), to living & dining spaces, kitchens and garden retreats. The practical advice will mean that you'll know exactly what to put on your shopping list to achieve the look you are after.

Great book if you live in a loft-type apartment; difficult to adopt exactly the same approach if you live in a Victorian terrace with small rooms - but something to aspire to!
Good suggestions if you're looking to break away from Barbie curtains and Bob the Builder lamp shades.

Superb ideas! 30 Jan 2005
Format:Hardcover
This book is a feast of wonderful pictures which certainly made me drool! For some people's homes the ideas may be difficult to translate as not many of us have the same type of space; I certainly don't! But it a great way to get inspiration and I certainly found it helpful in creating a tiny nursery in a very old house! A mixture of ultra modern and updated traditional looks with good commentary! Highly recommended!
