Book Description

When five pennies set out to find out how valuable they are they become discouraged as they are found to be nearly worthless by first a car salesman, then a juice bar operator and finally a taxi driver. Standing on a street curb and feeling quite dejected, they are surprised by a group of tourists who are delighted to discover “lucky pennies.” Each tourist appreciates the penny he or she finds, each for a special reason. The pennies, of course, realize now that they are worth far more than a penny’s worth.

Unlike the pennies in this story, who were not sure how valuable they were, every child should know that he or she is valuable and is important in the lives of others. Every child is priceless and is worth more than all the pennies in the world!

20 whimsical and colorful illustrations bounce along with the rhyme and will delight any child.

More About the Author

"Bright and happy," "light and whimsical" have been the catch phrases attached to the writing and art of Sally Huss for over 30 years. Sweet images dance across all of Sally's creations, whether in the form of children's books, paintings, wallpaper, ceramics, baby bibs, purses, clothing, or her King Features Syndicated newspaper panel "Happy Musings."

Before graduating from USC with a degree in Fine Art in the 60's, Sally had already become a champion tennis player, having won the Wimbledon and U.S. Junior titles and been a Wimbledon semi-finalist in the Women's Division in both singles and doubles. Carrying both her brushes, pens, plus rackets in her hands, she continued to operate in two arenas. With her husband Marv Huss, former head of Advertising and Promotion for Hallmark Cards, they developed the renowned Aspen Club in Colorado, a luxury health spa and tennis facility. After that, they embarked on building a string of 26 Sally Huss Galleries across the country offering Sally's art, writings, and licensed products.

Through the galleries, Sally's creations have found their way into millions of offices, hotels, and homes, including those of Clint Eastwood, Kirk Douglas, Joel Gray, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Mitt Romney.

Presently the Husses reside on an art ranch in Fallbrook, California, where Sally indulges herself in her life-long passion of writing and illustrating her own books. The majority of these books are for children, while others touch on her expertise as a tennis champion, and still others reveal her positive philosophy of life. Her creations are still "bright and happy, "light and whimsical" after all these years! www.sallyhuss.com

5.0 out of 5 stars How much is anyone worth? 13 Jan. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Lucky Pennies is a funny and warmhearted story of five pennies which find out on their journey that someone is out there for whom they are very special and very valuable and so are we all. It's such an important message for a child to understand that we all are unique and loved because of it.

My son loves the picture books by Sally Huss. They're cheerful rhyming stories which usually carry a message for the children to learn in a touching and enjoyable way.

If the wee pennies ever make their way up north to Scotland, we certainly know here to appreciate a penny or two.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story, 11 Jan. 2015

This was a nice story about 5 pennies, who together weren't worth enough to buy something, but when found by some people on a street, and called 'lucky pennies' had much greater value than their monetary worth. My 4-year-old listened to this on text-to-speech several times in a row, he really liked it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Meaningful message 15 Sept. 2014

My grand-daughter insisted I read this story to her over and over again just because she loved it so much. So - "Lucky Pennies" by Sally Huss clearly has "reader appeal" ...........but, equally importantly it has a meaningful message for the child about self- worth.

The writing is elegant and delightful - and the illustrations are charming. Highly recommended - by me and by my grand-daughter. Jake
5.0 out of 5 stars They tried to avoid the leer of the deer over the door of the bar... 3 Jun. 2014

...as they went outside to again try to find out how far five pennies would go. I've purchased several of this author's fine works to date and have yet to be disappointed. Book not only an excellent story but had a nice moral at the end of the story making it easy to give it the full 5 stars. Terrific!
5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful lesson in self worth 25 May 2014
By Mary Bosch - Published on Amazon.com

I read this story to my six year old niece again and again and again because she loved it so much. "Lucky Pennies" not only is entertaining, it also shares an important message of the individual's self- worth. The author writes an amusing story that captures the attention of her young audience and yet at the same time illustrates that each of us are unique and wonderful, in our own way. As a former teacher, these kind of stories, are the best teaching tools we can have. I highly recommend this adorable story to all those who seek to engage, entertain, and teach a young audience!

5.0 out of 5 stars Appreciation Matters 8 May 2014
By Mary Knight - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Oh, yes, this is an excellent book to bring home the idea of worth and appreciation, especially self-worth and self-appreciation. These “poor” pennies did not know their true value until others pointed it out. Then they were delighted with themselves. Hopefully all children received such attention and appreciation. My daughter loved this little story with its charming illustrations. It opened the door to talk about how important it is to appreciate others, as well as oneself.
