Product Description

Laura Sue wanted to be a princess with all her heart. However, she was not from a royal family; she was from an ordinary family, which included an ordinary brother.

One day to her delight, her teacher announced to the students that they could be anything they wanted to be. This was music to Laura Sue’s ears, until she announced her desire in front of the class. Laughter dampened her spirits, as did the reality that her family members offered. However, a beautiful, golden angel came to her rescue and told her how to become an ordinary princess. She gave her the formula and it is one every child could follow should he or she wish to become an ordinary prince or princess.

Over 30 charming and colorful illustrations dance along with the text.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good rhymes and moral, but... 8 Dec 2014

I enjoyed reading the book with my daughter. A fun read and overall a good moral. One issue though.

One of the main morals of the book is that little princesses should "never, never complain". I don't think this is a good message for children of any age. Children should understand that they are people too and if someone is doing something they don't like - be that bullying or treating others unkind - they should complain to an adult about it.

Perhaps a better phrase would have been, "never moan nor whine". I think perhaps this is the intention and it could be the result of a transatlantic lost in translation, but either way, I skip the part about never never complain when reading the story to my daughter.

5.0 out of 5 stars ORDINARY IS BETTER 15 Dec 2014

Laura Sue lives in an ordinary house with an ordinary family. When she tells them that she would give anything to be a princess, they tell her that she is aS valuable as a princess to them, but that it is just not possible to be a princess. Laura is confused when her teacher tells her that she can be anything she wishes when she grows up. Feeling despondent Laura falls asleep and is visited by a golden angel. The beautiful angel informs her that while she cannot be a royal princess, it is possible to be a ordinary princess by gaining the respect and appreciation of those around her. So Laura Sue is kind, happy and helpful to all those she meets. She recognizes the true meaning of princess.

Like other Sally Huss books targeted for ages two through eight, the bright and simple pictures correlate perfectly with the text and message. This book will work with your little princes as well!

Just what our little princess needed to hear. Thank you, Sally Huss. This is a great story that appeals to children and mothers alike. It carries with it a message that is so important and helpful that I hope every little girl gets a chance to read it. Our daughter loved the illustrations and has even repeated the formula the angel gave Laura Sue. I think messages offered in this way can reach deep into a child with wonderful results. Highly recommended by our family.

Sally Huss has done it again! Another stellar piece of genius for our children and grandchildren has arrived. I have always told my "grands" that they are princesses. Now, a real life journey on how to be that princess brings it home to them. I love Sally's illustrations and clever writing to deliver powerful messages in bite-size tasty morsels. I read it to Audrey and she was enthralled. Your children will love this book, too. Thank you, Sally!

"An Ordinary Princess" is another extraordinary book by children's author Sally Huss. An ordinary little girl learns what really makes us special and treasured in the eyes of others...and that is being kind and helpful. In today's world, when there is so much emphasis on glamor and glitter, this is an important lesson to young girls. A delightful story, colorful illustrations, and an important message. Another great story by Sally Huss!

An adorable little girl with the extraordinary message of finding the extraordinary in the ordinary. This book is a great reminder for children as I know so many who are rather spoiled these days with flashiness of life and distractions. It's a grounding message to remember what is real and to appreciate the finer aspects of kindness and human nature. Thank you for putting it together with such an adorable character!
