Book Description

When the desires of a dog and a frog coincide, they decide to trade places. Fortunately for them, the dog's owner, Gerald McGilligog, never wears his glasses. The family of McGilligogs is also remiss about wearing their glasses, which in turn affects their eyesight and ability to distinguish between the frog and dog. Thus the frog, posing as a dog, finds a new home. All the characters, including the green one, find happiness in this new arrangement.

The whimsical art of Sally Huss bounces along with rhyming, tongue-twisting words as the story unfolds.

Children who love the rhyming, nonsensical books of Dr. Seuss will love this book. And those who are fans of the books by Mo Willems, the Berenstains, Sandra Boynton, Felicia Bond, Laura Numeroff, and P.D. Eastman will also love GERALD MCGILLIGOG'S DOG. Age range: 2-8.

"Once among the family of McGilligogs, a-gogs, with moms and dads and lads and lasses,
None of them wearing glasses,
The frog was given a juicy bone.
He smiled and said, 'I've found my home.
This is the life for me.
I'm no longer in a bog a bog
Sitting on a log, a log.'
He decided he'd be a dog, a dog
And was as happy as could be."

More About the Author

"Bright and happy," "light and whimsical" have been the catch phrases attached to the writing and art of Sally Huss for over 30 years. Sweet images dance across all of Sally's creations, whether in the form of children's books, paintings, wallpaper, ceramics, baby bibs, purses, clothing, or her King Features Syndicated newspaper panel "Happy Musings."

Before graduating from USC with a degree in Fine Art in the 60's, Sally had already become a champion tennis player, having won the Wimbledon and U.S. Junior titles and been a Wimbledon semi-finalist in the Women's Division in both singles and doubles. Carrying both her brushes, pens, plus rackets in her hands, she continued to operate in two arenas. With her husband Marv Huss, former head of Advertising and Promotion for Hallmark Cards, they developed the renowned Aspen Club in Colorado, a luxury health spa and tennis facility. After that, they embarked on building a string of 26 Sally Huss Galleries across the country offering Sally's art, writings, and licensed products.

Through the galleries, Sally's creations have found their way into millions of offices, hotels, and homes, including those of Clint Eastwood, Kirk Douglas, Joel Gray, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Mitt Romney.

Presently the Husses reside on an art ranch in Fallbrook, California, where Sally indulges herself in her life-long passion of writing and illustrating her own books. The majority of these books are for children, while others touch on her expertise as a tennis champion, and still others reveal her positive philosophy of life. Her creations are still "bright and happy, "light and whimsical" after all these years!

A delightful story that rhymes and also contains an important message. If one is happy, it spreads throughout the family and way beyond. Poor Gerald... his vision is bad and he can't tell the difference between a frog and his dog! His entire family becomes involved with the frog on a trip to the Optometrist.. (Almost!).

Most highly recommended.

but you can be happy if you've a mind to (thank you Roger Miller, r.i.p) Eye-catching art work as always! And, of course, you are hooked right from the cover. That's not a dog, that's a green FROG. Somebody check the bog to see the dog on the log! What a clever frog - no longer blue and he's learned to "wuf" too. Sooooooooooo happiness is a state of mind and a state of being, and it doesn't hurt to see the world through, if not rose colored glasses, at least softened around the edges, just don't drive that way, please!
Thank you Sally for another charming book and life-lesson the easy way. Also for bringing the kiddo and the parental units together over a BOOK!
5.0 out of 5 stars adorable! 30 Dec. 2013

This book is so adorable! My kids were laughing with all of it -- a frog posing as a dog. It unleashed all sorts of imaginative ideas and explanations that little 4 year old boys conjure up. My nephew earnestly asked me -- can frogs really bark? which led to a long time of imitating what that might sound like. Thank you Sally for bringing in such joy and delight! It leaves the children smiling before they go to sleep.

Dr. Seuss must have been whispering in Ms. Huss' ear when she wrote this one. We loved this amusing tongue-twister of a story. The drawings are absolutely adorable and bounce along as the story unfolds. Being as happy as you can be is a good message imparted by this little book. It proved to be an excellent subject for our younger kids to talk about too.
