Product Description

Product Description

Merchandise are a trio from Tampa, FL. Having formed in 2008, the band has evolved steadily yet remained the same core group of collaborators playing music that generally falls under the vague umbrella of "post-punk." It's members have toured the country for years and years, playing storage units and basements around the country in bands such as Cult Ritual and Neon Blud. Children of Desire, the band's second formal LP, is also their most fully-realized statement to date. Entirely self-recorded and self-produced in the band's Tampa home, the record sees the band expanding their sonic palette in a unique and assured way. Uptempo pop numbers and dance-friendly post-punk tracks blend seemlessly with explorations into maudlin balladry, krautrock texture, and lots of noise. Though most assuredly not a punk record, Children of Desire is anything but understated; instead, it's an outsized, emotionally rich pop album that practically begs for your attention. HASH(0x8fd04de0) out of 5 stars Exceptional, emotive and sprawling with great hooks, 26 April 2014

I had to add my review to balance out the only other review which I feel is BS. Who buys a cd based on a review? It's not like the songs aren't available to preview.
This is one of the most interesting bands I've heard recently and have been listening to them regularly for the past 2 years. The singers voice is amazing and has a unique longing quality to it. The songs are really well crafted too, they do tend to sprawl a bit but always come back together and have some interesting hooks. I tend to go for bands that have their own sound which Merchandise definitely do. Highly recommended.

This is just noisy, kind of annoying quite honestly. That's what I get for trusting Wilko over at NME to buy an album. Next time I'll look a little more into the band before I make an impromptu purchase.
