This book, which is effectively a collection of papers given at a conference, addresses one of the more difficult topics in the field of Child Welfare and Crime.

Paul Cavidino and Gita Sereny set the tone of the book with very thoughtful and challenging chapters focussing, unsurprisingly, on two cases - the murder of James Bulger in Liverpool in 1993 and events surrounding Mary Bell in the late 1960's.

The following chapters give a useful set of international comparisons of other country's response to children who kill.

You will not necessarily agree with the thoughts and views expressed in this book. You may find the contents disturbing. However, these issues cannot be ignored and they deserve careful and intelegent debate.

If you are interested in Youth Justice and why children kill others, this bok is well worth reading
