Ceri Clark's novel showers us with innovative scenes full of characters whose powers are categorised by the different Elements. Gusts of air, streams of flame and water breathing are just some of the abilities displayed by the key characters of this 51000 word Young Adult novel as they battle evil Kings and creatures from other Dimensions.
The main protagonist is Jake, a teenage boy, bereft of parents and living with his Aunt and Uncle and seemingly normal until he makes a series of discoveries that will change his life: he can read minds, he has a magic crystal, he's inherited a lot of money, can astral project and... he's the heir to the high king throne on a world in a different Dimension where royalty like him have special powers based on the elements!
As Jake comes to terms with his new found powers and 'Royalness' on Earth under the tutelage of of Mirim, an Air Elementi, we are introduced through different chapters to the other 'lost' elementi royals that Jake must locate if he is to stand any chance of overcoming the Evil Emperor ruling his home world. The novel shows us too the machinations of this Evil Emperor as he learns of the threat to him. With a growing number of 'elemental' royalty friends Jake must fight the daemon-like creature that has been sent to kill him by the Emperor, before traversing to his homeworld to tackle the Emperor directly.
Children of the Elementi is full of wondrous characters and ideas and mixes intrigue with action as the various threads of the plot pull together to a climactic battle. If you want your fantasy based in this current world as well as a fantasy setting, characters with special abilities based on the elements and a novel that you might read in one sitting... buy this.

This is an amazing book. I was gripped from the very beginning and would recommend it to anyone, anywhere, of any age. You can really relate to the characters and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next!!!

This book is awesome! I read the whole thing in one day! The plot and themes are completely original and the characters are realistic but not boring or too Americanised. It starts in the human world and flicks between the two planets, which gives a really good contrast between the two worlds. The storylines for all the characters are fresh and interesting and intertwine really nicely. The end of the book has a lovely conclusion with an open end, maybe a sequel? Overall I think the book is new and really steers away from the teen vampire genre. Well done Ceri! xxx
