The best show album in years., 14 April 2000
By A Customer
What an experience. This has got to be the best show album for many years, and the cast are superb. Each song leads you through an already well known story of the creation, Adam & Eve, and through to the Ark. Well told, well acted, well sung, and it really wants you to see the show.(If you can) A definite hit for all musicals fans and I would urge everyone out there to give it a try.

An outstanding musical, 6 Feb 2005
This, for me, is by far and away the best show that composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz has written. Even if you're not a fan of his earlier, 70's-passion-play stuff such as "Godspell" or "Pippin", I'd strongly recommend this album."Children of Eden" encompasses the familiar Biblical stories of the creation - with Adam and Eve's expulsion plus Cain's murder of Abel in the first act - and the flood - with Noah, his ark and his sons in the second act. The enchantment of this show lies in the way in which it unexpectedly retells these familiar stories. It looks at God's relationship with mankind as being that of an overprotective Father's relationship with his rebelliously independent children. As such, it makes not only a fabulous story but also a though-provoking insight into the Judeo-Christian faith. Schwartz's songwriting has matured wonderfully here. Not only are his melodies inventive, easy on the ear and irresistably catchy, the score's musical themes are woven together with great skill, almost rivaling the cohesive technique of Sondheim. Schwartz's lyrics are also excellent, ranging from the dazzlingly witty and clever to the quiet and touching. As if all that weren't enough, there are some outstanding performances from the cast members here, particularly William Solo's suitably Biblical timbre as Father (God) and Darius de Haas' unbelievable vocal range as Cain / Japheth. Whether you are a devotee of musical theatre or just someone who enjoys excellent music, there's plenty here for you to enjoy.

I love this musical., 15 Jul 2003
Not only do I love listening to this CD; I have also had the privilege of playing (piano) for the production twice; the first was a concert version, and the second, which I am currently in rehearsal for, is the full-fledged musical.I encourage anyone who loves musicals, especially those in the Joseph/Superstar/Godspell mode, to try this CD. You will love it. The musical is glorious; various styles, including jazz, folk, pop ballads, gospel, etc. The singing is wonderful and the orchestration is superb.
