Book Description

Feb 1977

The sand-blasted world of Arrakis has become green, watered and fertile. Old Paul Atreides, who led the desert Fremen to political and religious domination of the galaxy, is gone.

But for the children of Dune, the very blossoming of their land contains the seeds of its own destruction. The altered climate is destroying the giant sandworms, and this in turn is disastrous for the planet¿s economy.

Leto and Ghanima, Paul Atreides¿s twin children and his heirs, can see possible solutions - but fanatics begin to challenge the rule of the all-powerful Atreides empire, and more than economic disaster threatens . . .

1.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant book - poor Kindle edition 15 Oct 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Five stars for the book itself, 3rd in the series and an impressive bit of Sci-Fi, my favourite after the first book.

However, this kindle edition is very poor indeed. The conversion has been done very badly, and Gollancz have obviously not bothered to proof read the text at all. The spelling errors, incorrect words (bad character recognition in the conversion?), repeated or missed paragraphs is terrible and actually impinges on your ability to read the book properly. So at this point I would not recommend buying this version until they sort it out and do the corrections !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just brilliant 10 April 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I hate reading fiction... but I couldn't put this book down. I'd steamed through the first two some years ago - I remember I read the first page and then I got sucked in, they were so good - all the little bits and pieces just came flooding back as I read Children of Dune. Another truly fantastic book - Frank Herbert must have been a fascinating man.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing formatting 22 Sep 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a review for the formatting of the Kindle ebook rather than the actual book.

This is full of disappointing spelling mistakes, presumably an artefact of the conversion from paper to ebook. I understand Amazon wants complete autonomy and speed when adding books to Kindle and proof reading everything is not possible, but the number of mistakes is horrible. In some parts of the book there's one a page, with words like "Fremen" spelled "Premen" and "Atreides" as "Antreides". It completely pulls you out of the story, I wish there was some way of flagging the mistakes so Amazon could release a corrected version.

Also, like the other Dune books, the chapters all start with a paragraph of italicised text from some historical source relating to the current events. However in this they run straight from the previous chapter with no break. Ideally there'd be a page break for each chapter, but there isn't even a blank line.

It pains me to have to leave a 2 star review for an enjoyable book, but the formatting is just too bad.

Great book. Arrived on time.

A few typos in this version that detract from the story, but a good finish to the dune trilogy.
