Product Description

Product Description

Author Felix Braun has completed a monumental research project to unravel the thread that leads to the beginnings of Bristol's world renowned street art scene. Only somebody on the inside would be able to track down the leading figures from the early 80s and Felix was at the very heart of the movement which revolved around youth worker John Nation at the Barton Hill youth project. This book contains more than 40 interviews and traces the Bristol street art story from early protagonists such as 3D from Massive Attack to the new crop of young artists operating in the city.

Children Of The Can 20 July 2009
When you talk about Bristol Graffiti, you automaticaly think of Banksy, having been intrested in the Bristol graffiti scene since the early 80's it is a credit to its creator, that Banksy (brilliant as he is) is briefly covered over 5 pages. As graffiti (when you think about it) has a pretty short shelf life, its a joy to see work by pioneers of the scene like 3D, Z Boys, Nick Walker, Inkie and Fade & Jaffa, as many of these pieces (if any) no longer exsist. This book is easily the most comprehensive of its kind, featuring work from the past 3 decades, the writer Felix Braun certainly knows his stuff and has put together a beautiful book that could eaisily rival the classic 'Subway Art'. This is a must for all fans of the art, from Bristol or otherwise.

great book on the history of graff in bristol and not just dwelling on Banksy (he gets 3-5 pages out of 200 odd). if you ever had anything to do with the graff scene back in the 80s, you'll recognise so much from the stories they tell. they also seem like they were a bit free-er w/ their interpretation of graff (which is, i guess, where stencils and abstracts came into it more, rather than straight up letters, background, characters.) i was interested to see that del naja (him from Massive Attack) got inspired from the Clash videos that Futura did some backgrounds in as opposed to Subway Art and Style Wars, that inspired all of us that were 13-16 in 1986/7. well worth a look.

Lots of graf books just chuck a random collection of pics together, not this one. This is very well researched, FLX has been in the scene right from the off and knows all the key movers and shakers. Bristol has surprisingly spawned more than its fair share of artists over the years and this book has interviews and images from all of them. Great book.
