5.0 out of 5 stars London 9 - Children 10 28 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read and very much enjoyed "London belongs to me" so I progressed on to " Children of the Archbishop" by the same author.

Having been totally captivated by the characters and lives of "London...." I fully expected this second book to be a bit of an anti-climax . Imagine my surprise to find myself loving " Children..." even more.

It was simply one of those reads which I did not want to end. I even found myself rationing myself to a couple of chapters per session to make it last longer! Silly I know - but when you read it you will understand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Splendid! 15 Mar 2014

This is an utterly engrossing read. Funny and touching in turns, full of engaging characters and beautifully written. Norman Collins was an excellent story-teller who took his time to tell his tale and entertains from page one to the end. "Children of the Archbishop" actually comes pretty close to his master work "London Belongs To Me" in quality and sheer enjoyment. It would not be too much of a stretch to compare Collins to Dickens, simply for his mastery at telling the story of ordinary folk living their extraordinary (and at the same time mundane) lives. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best 12 Jan 2014

I have been a Norman Collins fan for ever. How I wish he had lived to write more books of this kind. He has been described as the modern Dickens. I could not agree more. This book set in the 20s and 30s is for one of his best. The insight into the various different characters from Bishops, titled ladies to kitchen maids is brilliant,. His understanding of children brought up in the environment of an Children's Home is quite touching at times
.In my opinion this together with" London belongs to me" is his best work
