This is a compendium of writing by six young(ish) Scottish writers. Out of all the pieces here, the one by Alan Warner, After The Vision, is easily the best, combining his usual dark Highland poetry with strange, damaged, disturbing characters. And as for the other six? Well, they all succeed or fail to varying degrees, but the Laura Hird story is probably the second best here. The Irvine Welsh is tedious nonsense, and as for the rest of the book...forget it. But it's worth buying just for the Warner section alone.
