4.0 out of 5 stars A fun game, but too short 7 Oct 2011

This is a very fun game and very atmospheric once you close down the lights and turn on your surround system. I used the PS3 dualshock controller on this since I don't have the PS move and it's still a blast to play. The game is not story-driven at all and you can get the entire story just by looking on the internet, no big deal there.

Effectively this is a 1st person shooter where you clear viruses out of 'eden', which is the internet of the future in the game. However, the bright lights and the sensory overload the game gives you makes this completely different from the rest.

The problem is that the game is 1-hour long and replaying it kinda loses the sense of wonder you have at the beginning. At this price you can't really go wrong, but still what were they thinking with the campaign length?

3.0 out of 5 stars Short lived visual audio experience 7 Feb 2012
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Moving through a series of worlds filled with creatures and objects of mad shapes and colours, you must take down all virus presence in the digital realm to save the essence of a girl trapped there. Using the move set, aim over a set of enemies to lock on and then thrust forward to shoot. You can lock on up to 8 times before you have to fire, and by getting not only a full 8 hits in one go but also getting it in time with the music you will get maximum points. The viruses will attempt to attack you with purple objects that you must shoot down quickly.

Its simplicity means you can get stuck right in. The visuals and music can be quite mesmerizing and trance like in a good way. My problem with this game is that if you can get skilled at getting lots of points in each level, you can potentially have all 5 of the 10-15 minute levels licked in 2 hours. If you aren't quite so skilled, you can still unlock later levels just by redoing the older ones until you earn enough graded stars.

I don't want to put anyoe off trying this but do avoid paying too much for a game you will be done with within less than a rental period. Also, before you pay a few quid extra for a version with the free tshirt, i personally think wearing a tshirt with "child of eden" writen on it will make you look weird. Just saying.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great and horrible also 15 Jan 2013

I was really looking forward to this game - it's designed as a total sensory experience, with music, colour, and constant forward movement spinning you round into a state of euphoria.

if you've played and loved Rez like myself, you might be disappointed to discover that this is like the My Little Pony version of that game. The design is unbelievably kitschy, with a waif-like Japanese girl in a slip floating through the whole thing and escaping from giant infected flowers. I thought the organic-pastoral visual idea was superb, but though there are a few environments that resemble the awesome vector graphic design of Rez, it wasn't really to my taste.

The gameplay is good when it all comes together, but I have to warn that it's frustrating with the regular dual shock controller. I didn't want to buy Move for just this one game, but it's very clear the game is designed for very broad sweeping gestures, which the micro movements of a dualshock can't really mimic effectively.

For what it's worth, it is spectacular in 3D, which is only an option on the PS3 version of the game.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful game, but not for me 23 April 2013

I got this at really low price and to have something for the move.

It's a beautiful game, fast paced, and I guess that fun for skilled players.
To me, it's very frustrating and repetitive. The fact that you have to start over the entire level for a little mistake, bugs me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Purify for a cleaner tomorrow! 6 Mar 2013

I know a lot of people believe that this game is too short but then so was Rez. I knew what I was getting into which is why I waited for the inevitable price drop before purchasing it. COE has really dropped in price since its release which could put a few people off buying it but I would highly recommend getting it especially if you have a move controller.

The game consists of 5 short levels but once completed you will open up a hard mode and a bonus level which to be honest gets a little tedious.

The atmosphere and music are the reasons that make this game so playable, if you have a good audio system or headphones you really will improve your enjoyment of the game.

If you are a trophy gamer then you will be at this game a lot longer than the average person however for the rest of you a quick 2 hour play through is all you will get.

It's defiantly enjoyable, it's completely beautiful and under £10 it's still worth picking up for the experience.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous visuals 22 Jan 2013

At the Video Games Awards 2012 one of the developers of Journey, which deservedly won the award for best PS3 game of the year, stated in her acceptance speech that they wanted to make something different, and inclusive. The choice of the word `inclusive' was extremely apt. Together with its emotional depth, it is Journey's inclusiveness that makes it great. It can be enjoyed by everybody: older gamers, younger gamers, supergamers and not-so-supergamers. Everyone's a winner, nobody loses.
Like Journey, Child of Eden is what may be described as an abstract game, but there the similarities end. It looks gorgeous, especially in 3D, but there is little emotional depth to complement the visuals and it is certainly not inclusive - twitch those fingers quick or you lose. All of that adds up to a game which overall is OK but could have been so much more.
