4.0 out of 5 stars Finger-lickin good., 12 April 2003
This review is from: Chicken: Love for Sale on the Streets of Hollywood (Paperback)
If you're looking for a book that'll keep you turning pages for hours until there are none left to turn, you could do a lot worse than 'Chicken'. Detailing some of the stranger experiences that he had as a professional gigolo, Sterry confronts the troubling personal and moral issues encountered in what for many men would be a dream job. Intertwining the period of his 'chickening' with an account of his childhood and sometimes fraught relationships with his family, Sterry builds a picture of a fascinating, if dysfunctional life, spent criss-crossing America in the wake of his father's professional development, and washing up in 1970's Hollywood. His story contains all the elements of excellent autobiography; humour, honesty, pathos, and a wonderful writing style that's part reflective, part stream-of consciousness.

One point to note though- the story is so good, and so well-written, that it probably won't last too long. It certainly left me looking for more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy reading for instant gratification, 20 May 2003

This review is from: Chicken: Love for Sale on the Streets of Hollywood (Paperback)
Well written, funny and fast paced; this is thoughtful, magazine-style prose which satisfies our curiosity about boy prostitution in Hollywood. I appreciated Sterry's honesty and frank style, and read the book really quickly, gaining a little snapshot of 70's sleaze. A great little book to read in between times or heftier tomes.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Bother, 8 Jan 2008
I'm so tired of people that think they're clever writing diatribe like this. Obviously this man is so in love with himself that the point is lost (whatever it was) and he never stops trying to be cute.
Agonizing.
