Product Description

Product Description

Easy-to-care-for, productive, inexpensive, and full of personality, chickens are popping up in back gardens throughout the country - in the suburbs, rural towns, and even in cities. All it takes to keep a small flock is a bit of land and a properly designed coop. Just like houses, chicken coops come in all sizes and styles to meet the needs of any chicken family. Author Judy Fangman has combed the country identifying the top chicken coop designs, from utilitarian to high-style. The result is this ultimate collection of 45 building plans that are sure to meet the needs of any chicken owner. The featured designs include basic easy-to-assemble hoop houses, A-frames, and multi-storied wooden structures, as well as larger models for small commercial farms. There are also a variety of moveable coops that can be rotated around the yard, and low-budget coops constructed from found and repurposed materials. A 16-page colour section shows detailed photos of many of the featured coop plans, as well as some amazing kits and one-of-a-kind coops built from recyclables. With its comprehensive building plans and chicken-laden stories, "Chicken Coops" is sure to inspire a sunny-side-up, no-yolks-barred attitude in all chicken owners who dream of building a bigger, better coop to house their flock.

1.0 out of 5 stars Glossy but NOT Useful, 20 Jan 2007
By P. J. Simons - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I ordered this book eager to use some of the ideas to put a coop together for the imminent arrival of my hens. When the book arrived I was very dissapointed. I expect I should have considered that 45 designs are going to appeal to a very varied audience, but nevertheless there is not one design of quality, they are all whimsical pictures of home grown coops for a variety of small town USA chicken and turkey owners. Each 'design' includes a rambling story of the owners, their flock and the neighborhood which is of no interest to someone looking to use a plan to build a coop. There are some nice pictures, but nowhere in the book is there anything near enough detail to put together any one of the designs. I am technically capable of making a coop without a design - I have had to be, as this book certainly didn't help!

1.0 out of 5 stars Should be prosecuted for false advertising, 14 Jun 2008
This book has hastily drawn sketches with vague measurements and some pictures. If you are looking for chicken coop plans then don't let the title mislead you - it's a lie. Plans, in my understanding, give the details required to make an item, not just some scrawly overview. Artistic license gone wrong! Absolute rubbish! Should get minus five stars! DO NOT BUY!!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish, 9 Mar 2009
By David W. Robinson (England) - See all my reviews

I will from now on always read reviews of books before I purchase them! Lesson learnt. This book is exactly as described above. Gave me one idea for one arc, had to make my own measurements up, better looking at pictures on the internet for free! DO NOT BUY.

BEWARE! The 'plans' in this book are terrible quality and the designs themselves are all homemade shambles. Read more
