Biography

Chet Baker's trumpet and vocal approach was immediately recognizable and striking, especially in his prime. He was known for his clear tone, reflective and subdued style, soft volume and careful, restrained approach in his choices of notes for melodic sequences. He played in an army of bands before working briefly with Charlie Parker in 1952. he then began a prominent association with ... Read more in Amazon's Chet Baker Store

This album is so beautiful and such a joy to listen to. I find it difficult to find the words to do it justice. As a Chet fan I bought this album to add to my collection and didn't have high expectations of it. It blew me away because it is so atmospheric and cool and everything that I want from jazz. I know it wont be to everyone's taste but I think this could easily be a soundtrack to a film. It doesn't have tunes that you can sing to, it's more refined than that. It's music to have on in your lounge whilst you sit down and close your eyes and let it wash over you.

This is a wonderful record and it has one of the most beautiful jazz interpretations ever: Alone Together! A marvelous blending of Chet's horn, with Pepper Adams baritone sax and Herbie Mann's flute! The arrangement is superb. There were very few ocasions in which a group of musicians such as this were put together in a recording session. Chet at his best, supported by Adams, Mann, Bill Evans, the result is undescribable. You have to listen to it to believe!!!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By Mr. C. Eales on 13 Feb. 2008
Format: Audio CD
Chet at his most soulful, recorded in the 50's with a group of fantastic musicians. Chet's playing is inventive and expressive, and the album is worth buying for the song "Alone Together" on its own.... rarely have I heard so much feeling in a horn player's tone... I've lost count of the number of times I've played that track... it is never anything less than beautiful.
