Product Description

Product Description

This is a true story which begins with an unexpected love affair of all things Italian.
An innocent evening stroll whilst on holiday, through the narrow ancient stone paved
streets of a medieval Italian hill town, leads to a proposal and a heart rending revelation being uncovered once back in England. The discovery subsequently steers a course to a very different way of life.

A Tuscan wedding follows together with a glimpse into the everyday life of the local Italians encountered along the way. An unfortunate accident causes a life threatening illness but the warmth, generosity and kindness shown by the Italian people comes to the fore.

All this is combined with an insight into some of the highs and lows of purchasing renovating and living in an old ruin nestled deep in the forest of the Northern Tuscan hills. A must read for lovers of all things Italian.

4.0 out of 5 stars In Love in Italy 22 Mar 2013
By Gary H
Format:Kindle Edition
In reading this book it is easy to feel Catherine's love and connection to Italy. The warmth and joy in this story comes not only from the excitement and challenges of restoring the ruins of a Chestnut Barn into their home, but from the kindness, patience and generosity of the people in the local commune. This love of Italy, the people and the pace of life also comes through in the descriptions of neighboring towns, snippets of their history, local food and wine and the simple joy of sitting down to a wonderful Italian meal with friends ......... Well done.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit boring to be honest ! 12 May 2014

Having read Peter Mayle ,I was looking forward to an amusing tale of triumph over adversity and instead got an over simplistic story glossing over details with relentless speed. Too much info on collecting fire wood thanks.
The description of the War seemed to have been written by a different author , Detailed and with better punctuation.
Could not recommend .

This is one book I failed to finish. In fact I found it rather boring and to simplistic. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to my friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars I lived the Chestnut Barn with them ! 21 Nov 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm not a bedtime reader as such, but after buying my Kindle H D I had to download something to read. As my name might suggest ... there is some Italian DNA within me and with my wife Carol, we have spent many holidays in Italy, some in the Tuscany region. The book name jumped out at me. I found Catherine's writing very descriptive and interesting, giving insight into how much work is required to chase one's dream, and to succeed.
Maybe, the Chestnut Barn will transform into a B & B one day and we may have a chance to enjoy.
Watch that space as they say.
