About the Author

Cheryl has made the transition from girl group to solo star seem effortless. From the multiple successes of Girls Aloud who sold over a staggering 10 million records, Cheryl went on to record 2009’s fastest-selling single and her first solo outing, Fight For This Love. Her first solo album went triple platinum and she received two BRIT nominations. Already on the road to mega-stardom, Cheryl was handpicked as an X Factor judge in 2008, becoming an instant hit with viewers. The final season of the X Factor became the most talked about show in Britain, regularly attracting audiences of 15 million. In addition to her music credentials, Cheryl is also a leading style icon, gracing the cover of British Vogue twice, as well as the covers of Harper’s Bazaar and ELLE UK. In 2011 Cheryl announced the launch of her own charity, The Cheryl Cole Foundation with the Prince’s Trust, which aims to work with disadvantaged young people in the North-East of England.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read. 29 Oct 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book wasn't on my to read list, I wouldn't say Cheryl Cole is one of my favourite stars but I do like her personality and I like quite a lot of Girls Aloud recordings/used to like watching her on X Factor etc. I saw Cheryl on the Allen Carr chatty man show and she was promoting her autobiography and I just wanted to read it then. I thought she came over really well on the chat show and so I downloaded the kindle sample. It was surprisingly good so I bought the full kindle edition. Cheryl said on the Allen Carr show that so much rubbish had been written about her that just wasn't true and that this was her chance to set the record straight. This is very well written and starts from her childhood and how Cheryl and her family had no luxuries and quite a hard life. From an early age Cheryl shone at singing and dancing and actually got a scholarship to spend some time at The Royal ballet school so she really has some solid training, something I didn't realise. Cheryl won quite a few talent shows at this time. The book is an easy read which keeps your interest going. It has a good selection of photos from childhood right up to the present day. She tells everything like it is including Simon Cowell and her marriage to Ashley Cole. She doesn't bad mouth Ashley she just says what went wrong with their marriage and I really admire how mature Cheryl and her family are in that they can all get on together with Ashley now. This wasn't a book I would have been rushing to the bookshop to buy on release day but in fact I found it a great read, it really changed my mind about Cheryl. Well done Cheryl.

1.0 out of 5 stars Publicity mongering 28 Dec 2012
By Cazz
I was given this book for christmas and i have to say its one of the worst books i have tried to read, I find it self indulgent, theres no new information in it from what you can read in the newspapers.
A boring book from a talentless has been, sorry to all you fans but buying me this book was a big mistake and it will be going to the next good cause jumble collection i can find. Dont waste your money, the book by Bradcley Wiggins is by far a better read !

5.0 out of 5 stars The real story behind the Beauty ... 26 Jan 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I am not a celebrity worshipper, by any means but I do love autobiographies, so I found myself reading Cheryl: My Story. I had no prior opinion of Cheryl, other than she seems to be everywhere and is loved for her beauty.

Cheryl showed through her autobiography that she is a very normal, down-to-earth and fair young woman. Despite her beauty and success, there was no evidence that Cheryl is in anyway a lover of her self. And she certainly shows she hasn't been caught up in the celebrity world of excessive spending, forgetting the value of money. She knows where she has come from.

Above all, despite the glamour and success, you see that she was dying inside. I found reading about her divorce and relationship with Ashley, the most heart-breaking. Although, similarly, it is clear she has done well to escape the drugs background on her estate. It is clear that although successful, she clearly values family, privacy and health above all the glitz and glamour of the celebrity world.

I was pleased to read that Cheryl has since found some peace in herself. I'd like to be Cheryl's friend - she is clearly a normal lass with a big heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very honest autobiography 12 Oct 2012
By BookAddictShaun TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This is the autobiography I have waited years to read. I couldn't care less what the haters say, I love Cheryl Cole and have ever since Popstars: The Rivals way back in 2002. She was my favourite along with Nadine Coyle. People are automatically going to slate this book, rate it one star, say they hate it, whatever. But I have read a lot of autobiographies over the years and can honestly say that this is my favourite and one of the best I have read. Unlike Through My Eyes, this is a 100% honest, from the heart autobiography and Cheryl doesn't hold anything back. The only thing I would say is that certain parts felt a bit rushed and she skimmed over certain things but despite only being fairly young she has had a pretty eventful life and the book was the average size for a celebrity autobiography.

She cites press intrusion as one of the reasons for writing this book and how she wanted to set the record straight, and she has certainly done that. Having previously read Sean Smith's biography of Cheryl, and from reading about her in the press you feel like you know her from all that. And, unlike most biographers, I think Smith is fantastic and you can tell he certainly researches his subjects. That much is obvious from how similar the stories he told are to the ones Cheryl told, but she also talks about stuff that nobody but her could talk about. How she felt about marrying Ashley, why she did tacky photo shoots and sold her wedding to OK!, how the press intrusion and paparazzi really affected her life. I would say that after reading the parts about Ashley Cole, despite not liking him it is clear just how much Cheryl loves him and I wonder whether they will get back together in the future because to me, it seems like he is the only person that can truly make her happy.

2.0 out of 5 stars My Story or My version of events.... 4 Nov 2012
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Disappointed. Not so much 'My Story' as 'My version of events'.

I have always been and continue to be a fan but this was a bit too 'woe is me' for my liking. Yes she's had some though times but not really so different from thousands of others.

We learn that from a very early age, all she wanted to do was sing, dance and be famous - yet since she found fame on a talent show, has since spent most of it hating the publicity and the 'paps'.

Most of this book is spent talking about how tough things have been for her since she became part of Girls Aloud and her terrible taste in men. There's no doubt her heart was broken by Ashley and you can feel her pain. Heartbreak is hard to deal with and it can't have been nice to go through that in the spotlight - but that is a fact of the world of celebrity we live in.

There's nothing new in this book - just her side of the stories we've heard so much about.

As I said, I still continue to be a fan and I like Cheryl for her gutsy determination and fight - but enough of the woe is me stuff. You've found your fame - so accept that the celebrity status goes with it.
