Marvellous. Ok, I'm a huge Leatherface fan from their hometown, so I am wwaayy biased, but this is simply great. It's not as finished as Mush, which came along a bit later, but has all the essential elements of classic Leatherface. Frankies voice is low and gruff and he often sounds like he's gonna have a heart attack, but the lyrics are thoughtful and thought provoking in equal measure.
I love this record: always have, and I hope someone takes a chance on it and discovers early Leatherface, progresses to Mush and Horsebox and then regrets having missed them in their heyday. If they play one of their increasingly rare shows, make the effort:go!
I am fairly new to Leatherface and have only had this a couple of months and really love it. I think it stands up very well when compared to Mush and Horsebox. Heaven really had us rolling on the floor the first time we heard it. All their covers are brilliant but their own songs are always the best on all their albums. I listen to this a lot so it's hard to pick out favourite tunes but I think I particularly love Cabbage Case and Right Reverend. This band are wildly under recognised - they just don't seem to have ever produced a bad tune. Anyone who likes punk will love this album.

Cherry Knowle is Leatherface's first full length and is considered by some (including me) to be a minor hardcore classic. While their sound would coalesce into majestic post punk thunder two albums later on Mush, this album offers a preview of their later sound on a few cuts, particularly on "Colorado Joe/Leningrad Vlad" and "Discipline". There's also the added attraction of Frankie Stubbs' soulful rasp degenerating into an undecipherable growl on "Heaven" (a cover of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door"), something he would later do to great effect on The Last's "Patrick Kills Me" and a couple of other songs.
The album buzzes along at a rapid pace and will have you pressing REPEAT on your CD player more than once. Buy it and find out why! In fact, buy any Leatherface release you can find. With the exception of Mush and the new BYO Split Series CD, they are incredibly hard to come by. From Mush onward, they demonstrate over and over why they are among the top three or four bands in the world.

Great CD. How can I describe the sound to someone who has never heard Leatherface? For an American not used to British hardcore imagine 80s post 'emo' DC hardcore (Soul Side, Swiz etc) mix with Motorhead style vocals and you come close to the sound of Leatherface. Decent lyrics, anyone who likes bands such as Snuff will like this one.
