Cherry Gilchrist wanted to be a writer when she was only four years old, and before she left school was being published in journals ranging from 'Jackie' teen magazine to the prestigious 'Poetry Review'. After running a vintage clothes shop in her twenties, she then settled down to authorship in the field of creative non-fiction, and has published steadily ever since. Her themes cover inner traditions, re-tellings of myths and legends, life stories, relationships, social history and Russian culture. (A second shop happened to her in the late 90s, when rather to her surprise she found herself selling Russian arts and crafts). Cherry has written both for adults and for children, and she is also a writing and life story tutor, in particular for the Universities of Oxford and Exeter, and Marlborough College Summer School. Of her thirty books or so, 'A Calendar of Festivals' won an UKRA award, and 'Explore Alchemy' has remained in print in various editions for nearly three decades. Cherry loves travel, has visited Russia nearly 60 times (59 to be precise), Easter Island, and Uzbekistan, to name a few. Every journey is an excuse for a book: see 'Stories from the Silk Road' and 'The Soul of Russia'. Cherry is married to artist Robert Lee-Wade, and they live near Stroud, in Gloucestershire, where they enjoy trying out new recipes in the kitchen and dreaming about their next trip abroad.
