From Amazon.co.uk

Cherry Falls, the eponymous small town in Cherry Falls, has some dirty secrets--secrets that come to light when a psychotic killer starts killing teenagers. But the killer has an unusual criterion: only virgins are marked for death. Cherry Falls is a striking movie that never got released in cinemas, probably because marketers didn't know what to do with it. It's not a winking, smirk-while-you-shriek twist on the genre like Scream, nor is it a broad parody like Scary Movie--instead, Cherry Falls tries (and largely succeeds) at trying to turn the clichés of slasher movies into something that will do more than make you jump in shock. It's still scary; few things are creepier than wandering the empty hallways of a high school after hours, and Cherry Falls takes full advantage of that. It's also often funny, mostly because the mechanics of a slasher movie have become just a little too much and you can't help laughing. But it also makes you think twice about attitudes towards sex--moments such as parents breaking into a brawl while talking about their children's sex activity, or an "experienced" girl's pep talk to an assembly of girls eager to lose their virginity, are both funny and caustic. Brittany Murphy (Clueless, Girl, Interrupted) shines as the sheriff's daughter caught in the middle of it all; Michael Biehn (The Terminator) is great as the earnest sheriff who knows more than he lets on; and Jay Mohr (Jerry Maguire) smoothly handles the part of a teacher with an unhealthy interest in Murphy. Cherry Falls doesn't tell you when it's funny or scary, which makes many viewers uncomfortable. But if you're interested in watching a slippery, layered examination of sexual attitudes that is also a successful, spooky slasher flick, then this movie is for you. --Bret Fetzer, Amazon.com

Product Description

A serial killer is stalking the peaceful town of Cherry Falls. At first it seems that he is just targeting teenagers, but after the third killing it becomes clear that all the victims have been virgins. When the town's students hear about this they realise that there is only one way to protect themselves and begin planning a 'meet and mate' party where they will all lose their virginities together. Meanwhile, Jodi (Brittany Murphy), the virtuous daughter of the town's sheriff (Michael Biehn), decides to take matters into her own hands and trap the killer herself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Give it a go, you never know you might like it 4 Jan 2008
By Clegsy
Format:DVD
This is one of my fave horror films, partly because I actually cared about some of the characters enough to hope that they didn't wind up dead!
It's your usual "slasher killer in a small town targeting the teens" but the twist is that all the victims are virgins and they're dispatched in quite gruesome ways. The surviving kids decide that they're going to hold a party where they can all lose their virginity and stay safe. Brittany Murphy is the main lead trying to stay alive and find out what the connection is between her dad, who's the local cop, and a woman who vanished mysteriously years before.

If you're after MENSA type material then yes, you're going to be disappointed, but if you take it for what it is, which is an entertaining slasher film, with some black humour moments and a few attractive looking teens (who can act, which is always a bonus!) then you won't be disappointed. I didn't guess who the killer was but I never do!

2.0 out of 5 stars a confused mess of a film 2 Jun 2001
Format:VHS Tape
Cherry Falls is a small American town where a pesky psycho is offing teenagers in true slasher movie style. The "twist" here is that all the victims are virgins, so the local high school kids decide that they have to stage a gigantic orgy in order to survive (tasteful eh?). As I'm a big fan of Scream (and most of the copycat teen slasher films that followed it) I really wanted to like Cherry Falls, especially because it stars Brittany Murphy (Clueless, Girl Interrupted) and Jay Mohr (Go, Jerry Maguire). Unfortunately I was very disappointed. It's main problem is that it suffers from a really awkward, uncomfortable tone that feels like the director was unsure when to scare and when to play for laughs. The attack/chase scenes are (unintentionally?) hilarious, this is largely due to the fact that the killer is clearly a transvestite in high heels and a dodgy wig. I know they're trying to subvert the rules of the genre, but I can't help wondering whether the decision to make the killer look more like Olive from "On The Buses" than Michael Myers was a step in the right direction? And if it is all supposed to be one big joke, then some of it is pretty sick. Take for example one particularly misjudged scene near the end of the film, that starts off hilariously silly and then throws in a flashback sequence of a rape, leaving you feeling utterly confused as to what the film is trying to say. Scream was so successful because it got the balance between horror and comedy just right, Cherry Falls tries to do this and fails miserably. If you liked Scream and want to see another well directed, genuinely scary teen slasher then try "Halloween H20", but don't waste your money on Cherry Falls - it stinks!
