This book will really help for the IB exams. I have used it to study for my final exams and have found to be a great guide, the chapters are divided by the topics on the syllabus which was great and everything was plainly explained. However, keep in mind everything is roughly summarised and some details are not present. Also, a very big mistake was made in the Further Organics option chapter. Therefore, keep in mind if you want a book to give you an overall for the subject, this is great, but only studying from this book will not get you a 7 in the IB. It will however allow you to pass the class or to give you an broad over view of chemistry as a whole for any curriculum.

It really does help 15 May 2011

To start, this is a book designed for the IB student who is taking IB Chemistry (SL/HL). This book contains both SL material and HL material. This is a plus since students taking HL Chemistry need to know SL material as well. I took SL chemistry because my school did not offer HL Chemistry. For anyone who is not interested in going into a chemistry related field this is what you want. There are mistakes in the book (typos in text mostly). This on top of the fact that the book merely glimpses over material never really explaining it earns this book a 4 star rating. However, this book set out to accompany the IB student not to supplant a real IB text or teacher. It did, though, help me tremendously on the IB Exam. If you are an IB student like me, then you might want to go further into the field of chemistry. If this is indeed the case, then I would suggest getting the "Pearson Baccalaureate Standard Level Chemistry" text. This is an actually textbook and is far superior to the course companion in explainations and pratice questions. Overall though, the course companion is a must have for any student taking IB Chemistry. It is quick and to the point. It includes the options as well.
Very helpful! 5 Sep 2011

This book was very helpful for preparing me for my SL Chemistry Test. However, it is not as in depth as I would've liked it to be, but nevertheless it covered a wide range of subject matter. I got a 5/7 on the test by using this book to write labs and study for the exam. I would definitely recommend this book for someone taking the SL or HL Chemistry Exam, or for someone who wants to learn a wide range of chemistry.

All wet 10 Jan 2013

I got the book and other two books "theory of Knowledge" in a wet box. All books were wet. It is impossible to open the pages. Pages stuck to each other. Please send me this book again and make sure that it is correctly packed with cellophane.
