About the Author

Steven Rose is Professor of Biology and Director of the Brain and Behaviour Research Group at the Open University. THE CHEMISTRY OF LIFE (1966) was his first book. Since then he has written many others, including, in Penguin, NOT IN OUR GENES (1984) and LIFELINES (1997). He won the 1993 Rhone-Poulenc Science Book Prize for THE MAKING OF MEMORY.

Whether you are a beginner to science and just want an introduction or whether you are an academic wishing to brush up on your basics, this book is invaluable! Clear and concise, Rose tackles the topic of chemistry with respect to biology logically and masterfully.
Definitely a keeper for the bookshelf!

This book is a very accessible introduction to the wonderful world of biochemistry. Covering all the major areas from metobolism to neuroscience it is very readable and very enjoyable, so enjoyable in fact that im now studying biochemistry at university! I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest or curiosity in biochemistry and how the human body really works!

Great read if you are interested in this sort of thing, its great for those studying A-level biology/chemistry as not only does it go into lots of detail but also covers everything you could possibly want to know for the exam. For those who have no prior science knowledge, this book probably is not the best starting place as its gets very detailed quickly, but it was exactly what I was looking for as it doesn't over-simplify things like so many other books can do! Loved it all and was very handy for my Cambridge interview!
