I'm retired, and lightly bored as a result. So, I spend my large amounts of spare time having a serious second look at the stuff I had to study at school and university back in the last century. I have been taking a big sweep through numerical maths on my computer (mostly statistics, which has blossomed with R -- why wasn't this not available when I was twenty or so!). Lately I decided to tackle chemistry, and I bought a couple of Dummies books to get started. This one, Chemistry for Dummies, is the one to begin with, and it is nearly perfect; I can't recommend the book enough. If you want to take a look at chemistry, this is a wonderful introduction. John Moore, the author has done a lovely job. I shall be chasing his other books in the future.

Seems to contain all the right information for an introductory text, and in an easy to read style. Suffers rather badly from the embarrassing puns that plague this series and from the formulaic structure. Also suffers from poor internationalization.
