5.0 out of 5 stars Bruce discovers William Blake. 10 Sep 2003
By J. Mead
Format:Audio CD
The twin brother of the 'Accident of Birth' album, 'Chemical Wedding' is AoB with a concept album feel. Welcome to the world of William Blake, the 18th century poet. Bruce was obviously really into Blake around the time of this album, with many song titles containing Blake references (Book of Thel, Gates of Urizen). Don't let that put you off, take this album for what it is - a bloody good collection of tunes that once again showed Maiden what they used to sound like and is one of the reasons i believe Bruce got THAT gig back. There are some great songs on here, in Killing Floor, Book of Thel, Trumpets of Jericho and a great version of that old hymn 'Jerusalem' but i think the stand out track is 'The Tower'. Just listen to 'The Tower' and close your eyes - you could just see Maiden playing that track in their set even now (ohhh - what i would pay to see THAT). AoB is slightly the better album i feel but this is a close second. Buy it, it's a corker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh the Iron Maiden Guy.. 22 April 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Have to admit, I didn't even know Bruce Dickinson had a solo career going until I was a fully fledged Iron Maiden fan.. But I have to say, this issuperior to Iron Maiden in their Blaze (Wolfsbane, BLAZE) Bayley era. Working with Roy Z and Adrian Smith makes a killer combination. People say is sounds like Maiden but i disagree, this is much more of a personal revelation about Bruce Dickinson and his dark, mystical influences. Hard to choose between this album and Accident of Birth, I would say buy both! But it definitely fills the void between Bruce's departure from Maiden and his return for the Brave New World album.

5.0 out of 5 stars That Voice! 26 Jan 2002
Format:Audio CD
I am very surprised to find that there is no review of this album?!
I bought all of Iron Maiden's albums, mainly because of "that voice", I have also bought all of Bruce's solo albums for the same reason.
From his first, Tatooed Millionaire, which I was disappointed with, because there didn't seem to be much of "that Voice" being used. Disappointed with the "rugby songs" type lyrics too.
However the albums did get better and better.
Accident Of Birth was a good'un with good lyrics strong music and him belting it out!!
But, Chemical Wedding? WOW!
I bought it when it came out in '98 and it's never of my player for very long. I can't find a duff track on the album. The title track being (for me) the best track, because of the voice thing! If you want to a heavy rock album that has good lyrics, (some influenced by the writing/poems of William Blake), and powerful vocals you don't need to look any farther than this one.
One of the artist's websites is named after this album, so fans must rating it as the best album.
If you were put off by the early album(s) try this, it's worth every penny, and 6 stars!
Rumour has it he's making an album with Geoff Tate (Queensryche), this year. Another brilliant voice!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great metal album 3 May 2005
Format:Audio CD
I just want to say that this is an overall great album, not one bad track.
It has heavy, thick sounding guitars, and great riffs and melodies.
It is quite intense all the way through - a bit like Slayer, so you may not be in the mood for this at all times.
It is a bit on the heavy side compared to Accident Of Birth, and even goes into thrash metal terrotory at times - but for me this only makes it better :-)
The musicians are great, Bruce and Adrian Smith off course we know are gods, but Roy Z on guitar and Casillas on bass are great too. And Dave Ingham on drums is awesome - a great metal drummer.
I dont think this - as mentioned in another review - is just an album for collectors. It is one of the best metal albums in my collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scream For Me William Blake! 19 Jan 2001
Format:Audio CD
I cannot enthuse enough about this album. A unique blend of mind-blowing music, science and the poetry of William Blake, The Chemical Wedding is quite possibly the best rock album of the Nineties. The psychedelic yet crushingly heavy title track has the most memorable chorus you will ever hear (after the first listen you will know it and not be able to stop singing it). The electric tranquility of Gates Of Urizen and Dickinson's brilliant re-interpretation of Jerusalem are highlights here. Woefully underpromoted, this album has never received the status it should amongst the ignorant Limp Bizkit/nu/rap metal generation. Time someone started shoving this disc down their throats! This album IS the best money I have spent in the last year. Don't look anywhere else, stick this on your list NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliance!! 18 Jan 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This album is an excellent portrayal of Bruce's solo skills! Much heavier (and better) than Bruce's earlier albums 'Chemical Wedding' hosts a collection of songs that'll have you rockin, but also wondering!
'King in Crimson' is a brilliant opener! When it starts, it sounds like something from 'Slipknot', but believe me, it's much better!! It's a hard metal crash course! Brilliant! The title track is a slower song, but is definately worthy of being the title track! 'Book of Thel', and 'Jerusalem' are two brilliant heavy metal songs! I said wondering before, because at the end of each of these songs it has what sounds like a prophecy! These are two magic songs!! The anthemic 'Trumpets of Jericho' is another excellent song!
I can't really choose a favourite, because there isn't one song that outshines the other! All of the songs fit in well with the album, but all of the songs make me wonder why Bruce never wrote like this for Maiden! Every single one of these songs are worthy of being an Iron Maiden song!
An amazing album from arguably the BEST vocalist of the millenium! Well done Bruce! Only two things left to say
